I have been reading over the rule book and i am still hazy over the subject of assaulting. I have two scenarios that I will try to clearly describe.

1) Your unit is within assault range of two enemy units. These enemy units are bunched up and if you were too assault them they would (if you chose) be a multiple assault.

2) Your unit is within assault range of two enemy units. These enemies are in different locations (i.e. one East of you one West)

You decide to shoot at unit A. Now be it a special rule (Space Marines voluntarily falling back, units breaking or the whole unit being destroyed by your shooting) The unit A is now out of reach of an assault or is destroyed. Is your unit now left standing in the open unable to assault either nearby units in either of the scenarios above?

This is particularly annoying when playing against space marines. They are broken into small combat squads of 5... and kept close together. When you shoot at them and their forced to take a test which they choose to fail. You are left standing in the open in front of several small groups of grinning marines.

So can you assault another unit, if the one you have shot at has either been destroyed or has fallen back?

No, that's right, you have to weigh up the pros and cons of whether or not to shoot.

The exception, is if you destroy a transport vehicle you can then assault a unit that disembarks out of it.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
