I recently got an IA 3 and was wondering about the specialised command suits can they be given speial issue wargeat from the codex or must they stick with the choises given for tem in the IA book?

My opinion would be that they must use the upgrades given only in the IA book because those are what they were designed to use. It would be like taking a character in one section of the codex and asking if you could give him an upgrade from a different unit in the codex even though it didn't say it was allowed.

personally if we are alredy playing with IA stuff I wouldn't mind bending the rules a bit to let them take special issue wargear, but it will be an at your opponents discretion thing always.

Page 8 says that the Tau Empire Codex is required to use IA3, and says that the material makes reference to other codexes, but it does not say that there is a shared armory. The Tau section is not prefaced by a special rules section, you use the entries as-is.
Whatever is missing is supplemented by the special character, new Commander variants, et cetera.

IA books are "by opponent's consent" anyway, so why not mix up some of the special wargear -- with your opponent's consent, of course.
