Basically a Tyranid list with 7-8 monstrous creatures (carnifexes and tyrants), typically armed with ranged biomorphs.

Good God, is that really legal with the army builder?

Yes it is. It's legal with the codex as well.

Although this was a 4th ed bully list, it really isn't as terrifying in 5th. One main reason is all their guns are short to mid range and you can simply out shoot them at distance.

No real need for synapse though if you use stealers for troops. Also, stealers with feeder tendrils are the bomb, and why not give them scuttlers too so they hit from the flanks?

The elite carnis, at least two of them I arm with stranglers, they are good at keeping tanks from at the very least shooting you until you get there to crush them, ntm that stealers are not bad eather at getting rid of RA10 vehicles too when they pop in from the flanks. They heavy carnis I give venom cannons and stranglers too as well as the cheap free extra woound. believe me, seeing all those multi wound monstrous creatures on the board sometimes gives you the edge in intimidation alone.

Here is what I run and have had some luck with too

HQ: Tyrant w/two guards tyrant has bs, str, and implant attack ( I like to get him towards commanders and such to try and kill them) mostly run him to get close for action ( I dont have a winged tyrant so I make due with the walking variety).
Elite: 2x1 Carnis with stranglers
Elite: 1x1 Dakkafex
Elite: 3 warriors, 1 w/ venom cannon and 2 with death spitters.
Troops: 4x8 Stealers with scuttlers and feeder tendrils
Troops: 1x8 Spineguants, without number
Heavy: 3x1 Carnis with Venom Cannon and Barbed Stranglers, extra wound, increased save modifier, increased BS

I run the tyrant straight at em letting the guards absorb the hits, if they survive until combat, all the better for me. carnis dont sit back, they move forward and shoot and try their best to get into combat witih vehicles, if lots of troops move about shooting them up with pie plates. warriors hang back providing synpase for the guants who sit on a home base objective, if the get wiped out, more show up :-) stealers are just mean and nasty, and since they hit the flanks and come in reserve, enemy never knows what to expect and when. htey hit hard, believe me.

my thoughts anyhow.

Here is Nidzilla in a Nutshell:
A Tyranid army primarilly comprised of Shooting Carnifexes, perhaps with A couple Screamer-killers and a Flyrant for assault, plus a couple mini squads of troops (often 'Stealers)

That's the 4th Ed Godzilla list. The 5th Ed godzilla list hasn't really shown itself, but my theory involves carnifexes that are hyrid shooting/assault: barbed strangler/scytals for elite fexes, and barbed strangler/crushing claws for heavy fexes.

I think that the 5th ed Godzilla list won't show itself as such a big contender. With nerfs on rending, a lot of power is lost on stealers as troops. I think tougher is the way to go...ie 2 tyrants with guard. The flyrant- though devastating- goes down fast nowadays, and doesn't deliver the punch it used to.

I'm finding the best thing for a good Fex these days is actually a little 5 point upgrade for Spine Banks. Give you an ranged weapon for CC fexes and provides frag grenades if you need them.

Problem is they make most Elite Fexes too expensive.

I just took apart one of these lists this week with my Nurgle army. He came at me with ungodly fire power and then I assaulted him. It was funny to beat a famous army in HTH. Sad for them really. My Deamon Prince killed 2 of the Carn's in HTH by himself.

@OP
Note that what is described before is "Nidzilla".

"Godzilla", or even geekier, "Gojira" usually refers to a army pattern that makes use of monstrous creatures and tough creatures in general. Which most of the time means Nidzilla.

It may also include "elfzilla" (which includes the vatar, wraithlords and wraithguard) and sometimes even some demon lists (bloodcrushers and bloodthirsters).

Painted armies: 3000+ Nurgle CSM. Converted, yet unpainted armies: Too many.

If you have a pile of power fists it isn't hard to beat. We Tyranids don't really get Invulnerable saves, so we can't overcome getting Fisted.

Also, other than HTH, Tyranids have only 1 way to overcome Marine armor, and that is bio-acid mines on Biovores.

I run a 5th ed nid'zilla list. This particular list is 2000pts, nid'zilla doesn't like smaller games.

Flying Dakka Tyrant
Stomping Tyrant with Venom cannon Scything talons and biomorphs I can afford.
Lictors x3
2x Dakkafex (2x twin-linked Devourers, enhanced senses)
2x (Genestealers x8)
2x (Gaunts withoutnumber x 8)
2x (Hormagaunts x16)
3x Zoanthropes (synapse, warp blast)
1x Sniperfex (enhanced Senses, Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler)
1x Hopped up crazy Carny - Angelfex (Scything talonsx2, Adrenal Glands, Spine Banks, Mace Tail, Reinforced Chitin, Extended Carapace, Bonded Exoskeleton, Tusked)

This list requires special attention to win games, as the objective holding units are so small.
When I win objective games it's usually through holding one objective and contesting the others with lictors, carnies or flyrant.

I'd drop the Lictors for another Fex, or a brood of Biovores.
