Hi. My brother has two armies that I've never been able to beat, and I am trying to make a Necron list that can beat his Imperial Guard and/or Orks. He suggested the following:
HQ1: Lord w/ Res. Orb & Phylactery
HQ2: Lord w/ Res. Orb & Phylactery
T1: 10 warriors
T2: 11 warriors
T3: 11 warriors
T4: 11 warriors
T5: 11 warriors
HS1: Monolith
HS2: Monolith
HS3: Monolith
When I posted this on Warseer it was pretty much unanimous that I needed more Destreoyers and one of the C'tan. I would appreciate any help.

You need a Ctan for CC. You need a veil as it is one of the best things a lord can take aside from the orb. Your crons have to have a way to escape CC. They will lose and be cut down asap. More tools for leaving combat is never a bad thing for crons.
3 monoliths is pretty scary.
Again. I would drop a lord and put in a ctan. Run one lord w/ veil/orb.

There is another option. Instead of getting a Ctan to have counter charge, then you can go the way of blocking your opponent from CC. If you drop some warriors and possibly a lord you should pick up at least 2 squads of scarabs. Now, with these scarabs, and your 3 monoliths you can create a wall around your necrons that will shield them from assault. I have done this with 2 monoliths and it works quite well. I am planning to test it with 3. It should work.

I agree with the above posters, with this list you're going to be taken down in close combat, when necrons get sweeping advanced, it's pretty much automatic on leadership 2.
1 dreadnaught can assault and wipe out 1 whole squad of necrons, and unless they have disruption orbs, you can't even fight back.
If you're willing to take destroyers, I believe it's a good decision, they tend to earn back their points every game.

You dont have enough shooting. This may sound a bit weird at fist because you have a lot of shooting but its not enough. To go with the warriors you need immortals and destroyers because they are harder to kill and have better guns. Destroyers also give you the advantage of speed combined with range so you can outmanuver largely static guard armies.
I would also suggest you get some scarabs to use as tarpits. A few turbo boosting scarab swarms that can charge on turn 2 means that you can tie up his big guns in combat so they are not firing at your important stuff.
There isnt much point having a phylactery on your lords. As independant characters they should be hiding in squads anyway. If you still want to take lords get one with a veil, it is really worth it. If not then drop them both and pick up a deceiver. The deceiver is batter than a nightbringer against guard because he can keep enemy units pinned (vital against guard) but is still mega hard in combat.
Really this list isnt very good. The 3 monoliths, while hard, arent supported by enough to give the army a chance of winning.

Polonius wrote:Well, seeing as I literally will die if I ever lose a game of 40k, I find your approach almost heretical. If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

While your list is very hard to beat. It is also very hard to win with. Sure you have a lot of gauss(bolter strength) weapons and three large pie plates, but you have no killing power.
If you are going to run this like a 'lith wall then you won't have a hard time advancing your warriors. Though with any kind of deep striking units, you are leaving your back side wide open. Now that ork players have stormboyz and zagstruck you might be seeing more of them around. With the ability to charge the turn they deep strike it can lay the hurt on your warriors. Though this is where scarabs come into play if you have 2 full swarms of scarabs you can give yourself a nice moving tarpit just in case this happens.
Can't really give my input on c'tans as I have never used them.
I would try and fit 2 full squads of scarabs into this list. Also see if you can't add some destroyers or immortals for a little bit extra killy. Perhaps sack 1 lord and 1 group of warriors and mess around with this extra points.
