What is it and why is it so good?

Mech Eldar is having an Eldar army all in either Wave Serpents, bikes or some kind of Vehical. the benfit is a very fast army that can get to where you dont want them to get to. HQ is an Autarch on Bike or Jetseer Council. Troops is something a Wave Serpent, Prob DA. FA is either Vipers or SS. Heavies you get a few choices. Warwalkers can put ot lots of high power shots. Falcon can add to the mobility, and Fire Prisms can unload nice anti infintry. The other bonus to Warwalkers is that you can have 3 in a squad and three squads, so 9 Walkers on the table and each can dish out 8 s6 AP6 shots at BS3. Ork killers. This is a very versital army though is point costly.

Mech is simply a term for mechanized - which most armies have the capability to do. However the downside is the points cost - it gets expensive in game wise (small modle count) and in your wallet (or at least mine).

If you want a fluff example look at Saim-Hann.

HQ is probably both of what psf suggested.

Mech is good bc its hard for most balanced armies to knock out all of your vehicles before they get their job done.

As the others explained, it's an eldar army that focuses on having everything in the army mounted in / on skimmers. This means lots of wave serpents, falcons, fire prisms and jetbikes. The primary advantages are the fact that the whole army is extreamly mobile so they can concentrate force very well. The second advantage is that most (if not all) of the units in the army are inside an AV12 skimmer. This tends to overload the ability of enemy anti tank units to deal with all of the armor.

The other advantage of Mech Eldar is not having to paint as many models...
