whats left of armagedon

I am sick and tired of people being rude to other people about typos and spelling errors. People should just leave it alone. Soooo that's all I have to say.

I don't pay much attention because members on Dakka are from all over the world and a lot of members don't use english as thier primary language. If it's really bad as in unreadable I just go on to another post.

I see what you did there!

Dakka supports clear typing and good use of English.

This doesn't mean being rude to people when they make mistakes.

Actually, the worst examples of unreadably bad typing usually come from native English speakers who don't know how to use sentences and paragraphs, but think they do because they are native English speakers.

However this is all OT for the nuts&bolts forum.

The site gives a warning if you make a post containing no capital letters. It highlights misspellings in American English. I don't know how much more can be done automatically.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Perhaps a program that automatically deletes all posts including the phrase "*** ****"?

It is essential that people use good spelling and grammar as a full 25% (a quarter of all readers) are from non-english speaking countries. Translation software cannot convert spelling mistakes and bad grammar, so they would lose out on huge chunks of Dakka if we didn't hold people to adequate standards. Keeping people proper also makes it a lot easier for the rest of us to read posts. The average age of a Dakka member is around 30, which means their mindset predates annoying Internet shorthand. To grow the community we want to see, we need to cater to that mindset.
