In light of the new IG codex coming out this year, I feel inspired to share some of my Guard.
They each have pig iron gask mask helmets, a backpack from the heavy weapons team sets, and greatcoats that I made myself.
My army is based around the idea of an imperial guard force fighting through the wastes of a lost Forgeworld in the EoT.
They are led by Adeptus Mechanicus searching for old technology, and have allied Daemonhunters and Witchhunters to combat whatever the warp has in store.

I'm not the world's greatest painter, but here goes...

A few guardsman:

Some squads:

Command squad:

My LRBTs:

Some storm troopers. I can't bring myself to finish the squad with their current rules.

Tech priests:

Canoness in Mechanicus colors:

GK Terminators in Mechanicus colors:

The whole squad:

Adeptus Mechanicus dreadnought. Counts as Leman Russ Demolisher with PCs and LC.

The army so far:

I love this can you give us a step by step for making those greatcoats as I would love to add some to my IG army.

Those are amazing! If GW made them I would collect them. My only observation is that the IG look slightly skinny and the tank looks bland, but other wise this is great! I agree with Ghost, make a step by step for the coats!

I made the legs to be the same height as GW cadian legs, but I can see what you mean on them looking skinny. The first and third are based on the standing legs from the vehicle crew sprue and the middle one is running legs. As I sculpted these out of greenstuff there isn't really a "simple" tutorial on how to make them, I just piled on greenstuff, formed it into a vaguely coat shape, and then cut the lines along the edges. If a step by step would really help I could try to get some more pics of WIP coats.

Good to see these pics turned out well. I personally really like the realism in each guardsman carrying his own backpack. Makes the army seem like they are out doing missions where they cannot leave all their supplies behind.

They also do a covered helmet and a fur cap head with the same gasmask. Nice for a bit of variation.

Yeah, that's the look I was going for. Since my army is not mechanized, and the theme is that they often end up fighting long battles and sieges, I decided that I would model each soldier as carrying his supplies with him.

kharndude wrote:What did you use for the normal guardsmen head.

As Killkrazy said they are the the helmets for the Kolony Militia line from Pig Iron Productions. They have also released some gas masks with officer's caps, but unfortunately you cannot buy them individually and have to buy the whole HQ unit to get them. I'm probably going to pick some up anyway for my Junior Officers.
The fur cap + gask mask heads would be great for making a Vostroyan IG army.

See? We don't need GW to bring out greatcoat guard!

I like the models a lot; it looks like a gritty, veteran force. It may be the pictures, but your painting seems a tad blotchy here and there. Maybe a few thin coats and a wash could help out there? Still, lovely conversions, and kudos to you for finishing a whole army of these guys!

Man, those Pig Iron heads make your simple, hard-lining color scheme work really well. The anonymity of the gasmasks works a lot better than the Cadian heads for what you're doing. Great work.

Also, the red with silver script works a lot better on the GKs than silver with silver script. It makes the details stand out rather than clutter the figs, and ends up looking more John Blanche because you can see the interesting shape of the helmets/faceplates better.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Nice work.
I like the sculpting & the colours you've choosen (even the tank - just needs a bit of weathering - grey dust along the bottom edges maybe?)

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I've uploaded the pictures to the Dakka gallery. They're a bit brighter now, and hopefully you can see them Death Gear.

Thanks, I agree that I should work on the tanks some more. They were some of the first models I made for this army and I didn't do such a thorough job on them. Maybe I'll go back and add some more transfers and weathering. I was originally going to do a camo pattern on the tank but I couldn't figure out a good way to do it. If you have any advice on how to weather or do camo I'd appreciate it.

Yeah, now that I look at the pictures I can see that there are some places where the paint is too thick. Can't really do anything about it now, but in the future when I add some support squads (and whatever interesting things the new IG codex brings) I'll make sure my paints are a bit more thin.

Excellent design with the Pig Iron heads + greatcoats...and great choice of palette. I would love to see these guys lined up across from me. What is the color you used on the helmets...it looks off black but has a sheen. Actually reminds me of steel.

The color I used for the armor is a mix I based off shadow grey. I took shadow grey and added a bit of black to make it darker, and then a bunch of codex grey to make it, well, grayer.
The important thing is that it is mostly, I'd say about 60% or so, shadow grey. Then add in the codex grey and chaos black until it is the right greyness and darkness for you.
