Omadon's Realm

I saw the thread on the amazing super-sized ork warboss got rezzed, I saw the guy get shot at for bringing it back from beyond, then realised that you can view those Ubersized threads from the front page of the site.

So, if posting on an old thread is a crime, have a date timer or 'page reached' automatic thread lock if that's a possibility. I feel newcomers can be put off if they discover a thread that way and simply wish to comment they like the project, then get their heads chewed off for raising dead threads, remove the ability to do it altogether?

But the further problem to this is that certain ancient threads will disappear into the dusty vaults, never to be seen by newcomers, so, modelling and blogs wise, hows about a vote for the Hall of Fame, an extra forum section where the hallowed of hallowed modelling blogs etc could all be stored and easily accessed (I am thinking about those with added wow-factor, like the Ordinatus defence laser, that giant ork warlord, the running ork stompa, the four warhounds etc).

i think that the best solution would be to have some sort of warning sign pop up based on how long ago the last poster said something, like the message that pops up when i write this post with no capitalization.

that way it wouldn't inconvenience anybody, but it would usually stop people from resurrecting threads.

plus, people would be more justified in getting mad at someone if they ignored it.

i don't have any idea how difficult something like that would be to code though.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I think there already is a Threadnecromancy warning in place. I haven't provoked it yet, though.

That particular instance was thread spamming + necromancy + (and I'm just
guessing here since I moderate nothing except the articles) a small bit of
poorly written posts. I've been guilty of a little necromancy now and again,
but I think conversations are meant to stay open in a forum in case new
information comes through.

"Hey, nice model" (again, previously guilty) doesn't really cut it.

Yeah, there is something exactly as you describe in place orkeosaurus, but it only triggers after 3 months with no activity. I'm going to update it so that it will trigger after 1 month.

I'm going to lower the thread necromancy warning trigger to 1 month from 3 this weekend with the next release to try and counter this sort of problem even more.

Great old threads being archived away never to be seen again is the curse of forum software. That is the main reason we added the articles system, so that old threads can be highlighted and archived in a more readable format. We just dont have the manpower to go through and archive all the great old threads ourselves yet.. I'm hoping to create an automatic tool to convert from forums to articles (wiki) in the future so that mods can do it in one click.

@Lego, I just posted something in a 14 months old thread in Dakka fiction without getting any warning. Just thought you should know.

There are exclusions. The less busy forums (including dakka fiction) wont do the popup so people can continue to get feedback long after their fiction is written. If you are the original poster in a thread, you will never get a warning for posting to it either. Thanks for reporting anyway.

1 month is plenty time for P&M or even just Modeling.
