I've read through the Orky codex thouroughly, many people seem to regaurd the Flash Gitz as bad in their current form. I would think the more Orky army would have mobile firepower like flash gitz rather than Lootas. Dont get me wrong I love Lootas, but what is so bad about the gitz, they have 'Eavy Armor, 2 wounds a piece and some kick ass guns. Mount them in a battle wagon or trukk and you have a mobile fireplatform that should be able to deal with just about anything. Again why the Flash Gitz hate?

Several reasons, but generally the point cost is too high.

They're only Leadership 7, and can't get a bosspole without adding Badrukk or an IC. So, one lousy roll, and there goes your unit.

They don't do as many wounds as an equivalent points in shoota boyz. A base unit of 10 is about the same points as a full unit of shoota boyz with upgrades. 10 shots with random AP (which means, half the time, it's not enough to get past MEQ armor) vs. 60 shots that are AP 6 (so everyone but orks get a save). 3 hits, 2 wounds vs. 20 hits, 10 wounds.

In addition, they don't have any way to get better at what Orks are good at - thumping skulls in melee. No ability to take a powerklaw (again, without an IC joining the unit), big choppas, etc. They're the classic 'mixed' unit in wargames. They're kinda good at shooting, and kinda good at melee, but don't excel at either. But, because they can do both at a 'good' level, the point cost is a premium.

I love the theme of pirate orks, and I'll build a unit (someday) to field in APOC. But, they're not as good as equivalent points of lootas or shootas.

In the dark future, there are skulls for everyone. But only the bad guys get spikes. And rivets for all, apparently welding was lost in the Dark Age of Technology. -from C.Borer

IMO Flash Gitz just are not worth the points.
Lootaz have better guns ,more boyz & the opption to take mekz armmed with a varity of wepons for free (5 pts for rokkits) all for around 225 points.
Flash Gitz on the other hand are 200pts for a sqaud of 10 gitz and thats before any wepons upgrades.
For me lootaz just seem to be the better buy.

(dietrich beat me to it.. )

AP is overrated, especially for models with BS2. Compared to Lootas, their slightly higher survivability (2 wounds, 'eavy armor) doesn't make up for their poor offensive ability (BS2, 1-2 shots) and the shorter range of engagement.

And consider that 1 Flash Git w/ an upgrade is the same points as 2 Lootas.

Okay I understand now. Well I like lots of dakka, how should I use my lootas assuming I take more of them. Is there any purpose to loading them in a trukk and getting them to a position early?

Not so much. But putting them in a BW and parking it with a good lane of fire is very handy. They are then inside an AR14 bunker that can move and provide fire support. The main benefit is that lootas primary weak point (dieing, failing Ld7 and running away) is protected.

You have to destroy the BW before you can kill the lootas inside.

the downside is points and the fact that almost any unit can kill the BW if they assault it - but the same holds true for your lootas if they aren't in the BW. If they get assualted by a hard unit they are probably going to die anyway.

You can get so much more dakka with Lootas it's not even funny.

Gitz can get a fixed 20 shots if at full unit strength (which, given their cost will not be seen too soon).

Lootas can get up to 45 at full unit strength. Plus they're S7. Plus they're 48" range.
Plus they're FEARLESS TOO

Never really thought of loading the Lootas in the Battlewagon, I have some good ideas with that. I someone assaults it, let em. I'll roll up with a trukk with burnas and template them down.

I liken Flash Gitz to Kharne hiding in cover and sniping people with his Plasma Pistol.

Loota's are almost a mandatory choice in Ork lists.
