This was a 1500 point game in the escalation league at my FLGS. Angus's Glory Stompers Angus, Big Mek with SAG, ammo runt Lother, Big Mek with KFF 17 Gretchin, 1 Runtherder 29 Boyz, Nob w/pk and bp (Sluggas and Choppas, 3 Big shootas) 29 Boyz, Nob w/pk and bp (Sluggas and Choppas, 3 Big shootas) 29 Boyz, Nob w/pk and bp (Sluggas and Choppas) Deff Dredd, x2 skorcha, grot riggers, armour plates Heavy 3 killa kans, x3 KMB 3 killa kans, x2 rokkits, 1 grotzooka 3 killa kans, x2 rokkits, 1 grotzooka Chaos Space Marines (as best as I recall) Demon Prince with wings and lash of submission Generic squad of CSM (10) Thousand Sons (10) Chosen (8 or so) Defiler Chaos Dreadnought Summoned Greater Demon Raptors (8 I think) Deployment: pitched battle Mission: seize ground--4 objectives The center of the table was open but flanked by storage tanks (two lovely pieces of terrain made out of large soup cans). In the middle of each deployment zone close to the table edge were two ruins. There were two large hills in opposite quarters. One objective in each ruin and one objective next to the storage tanks. CSM won and chose to go second. The Orks deployed the Mek with SAG in the ruin with the Gretchin. I ranged the wall of kans and boyz in front. CSM depoloyed Thousand Sons in their ruins. The Demon Prince, dreadnought, and the raptors were on his left; the defiler and regular squad were on his right. Turn 1 Orks Everything moved up and units in range of the Thousand Sons fired. Everthing else was out of LOS of the Shokk Attack. Shooting managed to kill four thousands sons. CSM The Raptors move up with the Demon Prince who flies and then lashes the Big Mek with the KFF. He wanted to move them in assault range of the Raptors but the wall of kans prevented this. Instead he pushed the Big Mek backwards. The Defiler shot its huge gun but it missed entirely. Turn 2 Orks Shooting drops only 1 Thousand Sons. I call a waagh! and charge the raptors. Only two orks make it into base contact but the CSM consolidation brings a few more orks into the scrum. Despite having the charge the combat does not go well for the orks. CSM The CSM player gets his Chosen from reserves and gets the table edge he wants. With the help of the Lash, the Chosen will be charging the mob with the KFF. In addition, the summoned greater demon arrives--exploding from the head of the champion (or whatever) in the regular squad. The Demon Prince lashes the KFF mob into assault range for the Chosen. The defiler fires off its gun and fails to harm two killa kans. Other CSM shooting from the Thousand Sons and the Dreadnought is ineffectual. The Raptors assault resolution favors the CSM. The Chosen put the hurt on another Ork mob but do not wipe it. As turn 2 draws to a close I am not optimistic. Turn 3 Orks The killa kans turn back to help their Big Mek. This leaves my remaining 30 strong mob holding my left flank alone. Shooting, however, goes well. All nine Kans draw LOS to the Demon Prince and reduce it to one wound. The SAG then scores a hit and kills the foul thing. The assault phase proceeds as expected. The Raptors wipe the ork mob. Two Raptors survive. The Chosen win combat decisively. Only Angus the Big Mek, the Nob, and three boys remain. I lost the combat by seven wounds. I roll morale and .....booom baby! snake-eyes. This roll is pivotal because this combat is occurring on my right flank. Had the Chosen wiped the Big Mek/KFF mob they could have consolidated toward the remaining Big Mek and his gretchin on the objective and then in his turn he would have been able to move and assault. Four Chosen remain. CSM The summoned demon and the squad on his right are moving around opposite sides of the storage tanks to get my remaining Boyz mob. The defiler shoots and stuns a killa kan. However the Dreadnought manages to wreck a killa kan. The raptors move up in an attempt to support the Chosen's push on the Big Mek. During the assualt phase the Chosen wipe the Big Mek and his boyz and consolidate towards the remaining Big Mek. I am hoping for at least a draw at the end of turn three. My kans have pulled back and to my left to protect the Big Mek. My deff dredd is the only unit that can offer any support to my remaining squad but surely his summoned greater demon will brush it aside without too much trouble. Turn 4 orks Two units of kans move on the Chosen and the two remaining raptors. Another unit of two kans moves back towards the center of the table. My squad on my left pulls back to get out of assault range of the summoned greater demon. Shooting ensues. The unit of KMB Kans manages to kill the two remaining raptors. Another unit of kans kills two of the chosen and proceeds to charge. The final unit of Kans manages to immobilize the dreadnought--job well done! The SAG fires at the Defiler, scores a penetrating hit but rolls a 1 on the damage table. During the assault phase a unit of kans kills the remaining chosen. There is now nothing left to threaten the Big Mek/Gretchin. CSM He moves up his remaining squad. His defiler and summoned demon are side by side. His remaining Thousand Sons have been baby sitting the objective in his zone and using his psychic power without effect on my kans. In his shooting phase he fleets the defiler and rolls a one. The defiler fails to get into assault range of any kans. Turn 5 Orks The Kans resume their forward progress. My remaining boyz squad moves into assault range of his regular squad (on the opposite side of the storage tanks from the summoned demon) The SAG shoots and misses. I burn the ammo runt and it hits demon and scores a wound. The deff dredd flames the demon but fails to wound it. In a gesture of futility I have the rokkit and grotzooka bearing kans shoot at the defiler. The rokkit misses. The grotzooka hits and rolls a six--glancing hit! The damage roll is another six--immobilization! In the assault phase I hit his squad and combat is a push--which means on his turn I'll wipe him and with luck consolidate to hold a second objective. CSM The sorcerer (or whatever) in the Thousand Sons manages to blowup a killa kan. The summoned great demon ignores the deff dredd and moves toward the boyz squad. In the assault phase the CSM squad is wiped and I gain control of a second objective. His immobilized vehicles fire on the Big Mek/gretchin trying to get to morale check threshold. Three gretchin die and nobody notices. We roll and the game continues Turn 6 Orks Shooting at the summoned demon puts another wound on it. One unit of kans and the dredd move towards the thousand sons--that objective is now contested! CSM He has about 4 Thousand sons remaining, an immobilized defiler and dreadnought, and a summoned greater demon with two wounds. The demon moves to engage my boyz. His vehicles shoot at the gretchin again. I go to ground and lose only 1 more gretchin. His demon then assaults my boyz. He rolls average and kills four boyz. I roll spectatularly and score five wounds on the beast. He fails two saves and dies. He then concedes. The orks control two objectives. The CSM control no objectives. A crushing victory for the orks. Afterthoughts A victory overshadowed by my opponent's lack of knowlegdge of the rules and his own codex and general carelessness. He initially claimed his Demon Prince had a 4+ invulnerable save and that his Defiler had13 front armor. He forgot to roll for crazed on the Dreadnought initially. At one point he also forgot to consolidate into an assault which would have limited me to three boyz attacking. He initially insisted that he could use his WS to hit with grenades in an assault against walkers. Most disappointing, however, was the attempt to abuse the Lash of Submission. My opponent wanted to move up a unit over the wall of kans. I pointed out that you cannot move through a unit unless the gap between the bases was sufficient to allow them to move though and this was not the case.
