Hey all, long story short my little brother is starting to play space marines and he thinking between salamanders or white scars and ive been trying to find a simple paint scheme which is easy to follow and is basic, for example a few foundation paints and washes. so for any ideas i would gladly appreciate it.

Use white primer... he can spray his models entirely and then paint a bit of detail and hes got white scars.

I'd agree Salamanders.

As said, white is hard to paint effectively.

Also, Salamanders decals come with sets as well.

There are several good foundation colours for green, so you can paint them over a black undercoat leaving the recesses black and it will look effective if you just pick out the eyes, metal and put some sand and flock on the base.

Space marines are perfect like this for getting a figure that looks decent on a table top without needing a lot of skill - which is just what you need to interest a young person new to the hobby.

Cheers

thanks for the informations, salamanders were the ones which my little brother took most attention too, if i did knarloc green with thraka wash would be a good first go at painting and when his skills get better he can use more layers and go into hightlighting and drybrushing etc.

*my little brother just decided to go with salamanders

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

If you want to do a mediocre job of white, then white will be easier, but a really amazingly painted white scars army will be harder to do than an amazingly well painted salamanders army.

I can vouch for that. I spray painted my termies white and then went to put some skull white highlights and it mae the skull white GW spray primer look grey. After 3 coats of white, I almost have the primer covered. :(
Go for the salamanders, it'll be easier to make them look good and will be easier to keep him motivated to finish.
