Hi ho!

I thought I would post up some pictures of my Tyranids, as they come to the end of an era :(
Sadly I'm having to part with them, I was really hoping to have them in a display cabinet at home, and to pull them out from time to time - however the wife has put her foot down ;(.
I wasnt around on these forums at the time, so I figured I would show you guys before they're gone!

Here's a few pics:

The rest can be found here!

If you're interested - the auction can be found here.

They look great!

So, what's the wife giving up in this brave new world?

What was the reasoning? I can understand not wanting to spend any additional money on figures, but a single army doesn't take up that much space.

Embalm the wife and put HER in the display cabinet, these are far too good to give up without a fight.

Compromise... you'll ditch the nids, she has to ditch the fine china and silverware... it's only fair.

Having done the "put aside childish things" for a woman once, I found that I regretted it a great deal. More so after I finally put her aside.

Great paint job and put your foot down.

I'm not allowed things on display either. Wives, girlfriends etc have a deep rooted fear of what people will think if they come round for coffee.

Perfectly understandable if your army has any Slaanesh models, but wholely unfair most other circumstances.

EDIT - Your pictures have just come up (work computers a bit slow). You can't part with those! Hide them in the loft or something.

Exactly. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find a box or SOMETHING to store them in. A few years down the road you'll be kicking yourself for letting them go.

Those are too perfectly painted to let go of. I know a lot of FLGS around me that have empty display cases. You could always ask to store them there on display for a long period of time. Might work?

Beautiful army! You MUST be able to find a way of storing them in an army case and your loft? If not, whoever gets them from you will be extremely fortunate to get them!

what about buying a lot of army transport foam trays and just keeping them safe in a closet out of sight, then you still have them to play with sometimes

These are some very amazing Tyranids.

If she puts her foot down, why don't you one up her and put both your feet down. I doubt she has a third leg, therefore you win.

Those are spectacular, you've obviously busted your hump over them. Give them to a friend or something for safe keeping, or store them in a box in the back of a closet or something. Things happen and people fight sometimes out of the blue, if you two split you'll be super pissed you ditched them for her selfish ass.

My wife actually prefers the scantily-clad female models in my Reaper collection over the 40k's... but she still allows me to display what she considers a significant investment of time, effort, and (not the least!) money.

She doesn't "get it" and she could care less when I wax enthusiastically about magnetizing the Autarch for every gear option possible (with the exception of a jetbike and starlance - that'll get it's own model), but she does understand that it's a passion that keeps me sane.

If you're not smoking it, snorting it, shooting it up, or scr*wing it, it's the least of her worries. If you are, then you have significantly more invested in the hobby than I do...

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Just about everyone I know, who's given up their figures for one reason or another has regretted it. Find a way to keep them even if it means boxing them up and putting them in the attic. Lend them to a friend for safekeeping. Sell them to a friend with an option to buy back if she changes her mind.

But Redbeard, your slaanesh army looks amazing. You could probably get away with it in any house on the grounds of it looking like a true work of art!

Tossing my opinion in support of what others have said.

Finishing an army is a lot of work.
Store it.

Even if you live in a NY-shoebox.
In that case get a nice decorative truck that can be used as furniture.
I would be a coffee table that would have some real meaning.
I mean who doesn't like a constant buried reminder of who they are hidden in plan sight.

...jokes aside

I'm sorry for your loss. They are beautiful pieces.
(and I hope this sacrifice on the matrimonial altar isn't done out of guilt for some heinous crime against all of humanity, guilt is for squats & zoats)

I'm going to throw my support in as well. They are absolutely beautiful, and you should fight for them. I'm sure that, if you explain the investment of time, money and care you put into those figures, you wife will understand. They needn't be on display in the front room, but neither should she be trying to force you to abandon a hobby you obviously put a lot of effort into. Dakka Dakka must start a campaign to Save the Tyranids! There will be flyers! And leaflets! And petitions! And people marching around carrying those big signs and chanting!

If it's because you have kids on the way, and random pointy objects/chocking hazards abound, that I understand. But choose the "in storage" option over the selling option. Infurita is correct. People who don't respect what you value don't respect you.

I can understand her not playing, but to marry someone who hates your minis that much? This isn't about 40k, mind you, but about having things in common, or at least being able to tolerate her spouse's hobbies.

http://proximity.orconhosting.net.nz/Figures/Zilla/FinalArmy/ gives me a Forbidden error.

Edit; the images show now, amazing stuff! Even flying Rippers, fantastic! Where's the Troops, though, other than one brood of Genstealers?

Haha, no no it's nothing like that!
My wife is actually about as supportative with the hobby as anyone could get.
Infact, it was her suggestion that the biggest room in the house become my games room, so that I can have a gaming table permamently set up, along with a painting table, couch tv etc...not to mention it opens up onto the decking via french windows for summer bbq's after a good long game ;D!

It's more just that buying a house (and having to furnish it) in the midst of a financial crisis is a pretty big undertaking, so it really is the only option. I was hoping to have to only sell my EC's, but if the nids go too, it will alleviate a lot of pressure.

Cheers,
- Charlie

Sad day man. I thought it sucked that you had to give up on the Children but this. Truly epic army man, great paintjob and an awesome color combination. Truly lovely. I do however, understand your reasons. Good luck on getting a reasonable price
