In the deployment that splits the table in half can you deploy units right along the very middle of the table?

As long as the model does not cross over the 24" mark.

What if the mission deployment is spearhead?

Spearhead doesn't allow you to deploy like that. That is dawn of war that allows you to deploy halfway up the table. Spearhead deployment clearly states you pick a quarter and must deploy 12" from the center of the field meaning no one will be within 24" of each other. Hence the statements that you guys played incorrectly.

Its 18" appart when playing dawn of war, not 24".

And hulksmash you can indeed be within 24" when playing spearhead.

Yep we both got it wrong, which unfortunately gave me a huge advantage since I got to first. Time to eat some crow... Yuck!

Well, you can actually wind up closer than 24" due to the angles.

DAWN OF WAR: Table Halves:

"... The players roll off, and the winner chooses to go first or second. The player that goes first then chooses one of the table edges to be his own table edge. He then can deploy up to two units from his Troops selection and up to one unit from his HQ selections in his half of the table (this is his deployment zone). His opponent then does the same in the opposite half, but must position his three units more than 18'' from enemy units."

"... All units that were not deployed, and were not declared to be in reserve during deployment, must enter the game in the Movement phase of their first player turn by moving in from their own table edge, just like units moving from reserve."

If it was DoW then he couldn't have deployed the LRC and Terminators at the 24'' line.
