1863?

Plague bearers are tough, but you're going to have a hard time scoring kills with this list, I would think.

Yep 1863 =)

Please elaborate.

I have noticed that it is a slow starter but other than that it tends to explode in killy'ness around turn 3 - 4.

1863 is a fairly odd point-value to play, I would think. Most people go for something a little more round, like 1850.

What sort of tallies do you end up with?

I like the list as it is pure Nurgle so great theme. Are the soul grinders for taking out enemy armor? What is your approach in general for dealing with enemy armor?

The nice thing about fielding squads of 20 Plague Bearers is that you will get a tonne of attacks. I never thought of that but it is probably the best way to run them. I own over 50 Plague Bearers myself.

eh once a few enemy models go down, those units of Plague Beaers start to get really mean. I like this list, its straight nurgle in all its disease infested awesomeness.

What tournaments will be run at 1863 points though? The standard these days seems to be 1850 or 1750. Maybe drop a couple of Nurglings to slip in under 1850?

Got to agree w/ a nice theme and once Plaguebearers go Plastic I expect to see more all Nurgle, or at least more, armies floating about. Odd Tourney value as others have stated....is this at a LGS or what?

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

The tourny is set around a battle that happened in 1863 hence the point value.

BTW I have 5 weeks to paint this army.

There has hardly been a game where my tally has not reached 20. My current record, with several different configurations is 22-6. The includes the ard boys and 3 other tournaments. I placed in the big tie for 6th or 7th in the finals.

I wanted to get some feedback on what people thought of the army.

Oh gotcha, that explains the awkward points but thats a pretty cool idea for a points value (based on a historical event like that).

I really like the list a lot, I don't think I'd change anything if it was mine and not yours. Epidemus is far and away my favorite unit for Demons (the model is awesome too lol naked fat guy getting carried around by Nurglings).

Clay two questions for you:

How do you deal with taking out armor?
What roles do your soul grinders play?

The 2 weaknesses of the army are horde orks and armor. These are two weaknesses shared by most demon lists.

The soul grinders have helped me deal with both of these problems and seem to add more balance to those games.

Out of the 28 games I have played the tallyman has only died 3 times. Stick him in a 20 man unit of PBs and keep him away from close combat. If someone actually manages to get through the 20 man unit of PBs just drop from that unit and join another so they have to start the process all over again. I usually switch him around squads quite a few times just to avoid him getting stuck in CC.

I know its not very Nurgle per say, but would Tongue o nthe Grinders help you with beating armor at all? I'd imagine the Grinders are already top priority targets for lists that have a lot of armor in them, so I'm not sure if it's best to spend more points on them if the effect is going to be marginal.

I need to playtest them with tongue against a horde army and see how much not having the large blasts hamstrings me.

Your right though, I cannot justify spending the extra points to have both abilities on them.

1 GUO - breath, AoD, flies

Dropped 3 plauge bearers and the intstrument from the GUO in order to get more anti armor. Doesnt change the list very much at all as far as survivablity but does make it a whole lot more viable against armor.

It is very important to be able to punch through armor when you need to.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. This is a Chaos Demons list.

I played The Everliving round 2 at the Ard Boys Finals and I think had I used tongue on the soul grinders the game might have been more in my favor. I took a minor loss to him by 1 KP due mostly to his ability to keep units mobile.

I like what you dropped you to find the points for Tongue, I'm just worried that the Soulgrinders can be killed too easily for all the points they cost. You'll get first shot with them, which is very nice, and you should be able to really bring it against armor now with Tongue on them.

Soul grinders can be dropped but Av13 is not bad and I think this unit is better than the alternative - daemon princes.

I used to hate armor in 4th edition, would never take it. So to tell you the truth I was scetchy at first in taking armor in 5th. I have been amazed at the survivablity and power of the soul grinder. With the nasty assortment of CC and shooting weapons + the ability to ignore shaken and stunned, nothing short of an imobilization + weapon destroyed result is going to stop them.

In about 50% of the games I play they double thier points in kills.

It is a good choice for the points and opponent's cannot aFford to ignore them.

It is definitely better than taking Demon Princes. I really like the list, good luck with it in the tournament! Are you going to make a tournament report?

I've never been really good at tournament reports. But since you showed some interest I might just have to bring along my digital camera and post the best report that I can.

Took Best overall with this list this past Saturday. 143/160 points. 74/80 battle 69/80 soft scores, dont know the exact division yet.

Found out one important thing about taking 57 plauge bearers. If you get on an objective and squat there its near to impossible to dig them out when you combine other relitive threats such as GUO's and Soulgrinders add in the tarpitting nurglings with the threat of the tally and you have some nasty nasty survivability.

Congrats!

This is certainly a very strong army. In fact, it has me inspired to perhaps play something similar as my next army (I love the Epidemus model too).

The Soul grinders cannot increase the tally, would daemon princes be a better idea? Or are you taking the soul grinders just for Anti-Tank?

duel role - anti tank and anti horde. I know they cannot increase the tally but they do add important punch to the army.

In most of my games the tally only really got going from the GUO wandering around slowly killing units.

I think the only issue i see with this list is that it looks like it would have a huge uphill battle against a marine list that relied on Thunder Hammer marines as the punch. They chew through plague bearers.
Have you faced a list with say two 7 man Thunder hammer squads with this list? i am curious as to how they would do. Mostly because there is not a lot of soft kills to get the number up for the bonuses to the plague bearers.
