I was wondering, as the title implies, whether rokkits, or any special weapon, was worth it at all on trukk boys.

My thoughts are that they are only BS2, and can't shoot out of the trukk if it is hurtling towards the enemy, which it should be. On the other hand, if the trukk gets shot, they get a shot, or before and after they charge. Still, 10 points, that's two kombi-skorchas...

The list has 3 trukk squads, a battlewagon of mega nobs with megaboss, zogwort with 20 shootas with rokkits, storm boys, kommandos, and 2 big gun wagons. Not lots of anti-tank that isn't power klaw based, but then again at 10 points per BS 2 rokkit stuck in a non-firing trukk, that isn't too exciting.

So what's the general wisdom of Dakka about that?

If they are Trukk Boyz I would have (and as a disclaimer I'm very inexperienced) Slugga's and not Shoota's so wouldn't take any Rokkits or Heavy Shoota's at all.

If you were using the Trukk unit as a smash and grab or objective sitter type, I'd go with Shoota Boyz, PK Nob and B/Pole and a Big Shoota.

Ork's has horrible BS, so go for weight of fire.

Keep the trukk mobs as cheap as possible. The trukk should be moving 12" (13") every turn until it delivers its payload or is destroyed (whichever comes first) so you're not shooting out of the trukk anyway.

At BS2 your one rokkit shot is not going to do much at all. Almost nothing to AR14 and slightly above nothing for anything less. And when you're shooting you're not traveling as fast as you could be.

Is 10 points really worth the one shot you're going to take when you disembark and charge in the assault phase? You're most likely not charging armour (unless for some reason it's the best possible target). So you're looking at 30 points - that's half a grot sqaud (almost) or another big gun. IMO you're better off buying a 3rd big gun that can shoot most turns, has better BS and more options (I'm assuming a kannon here btw).

When I started out with my Orks I routinely included a rokkits in my trukk boy mobs, but experience has shown that to be a worthless investment so I abandoned that notion. I find that I get more bang for my buck by keeping the unit lean and mean. 11 Slugga Boyz + 1 Nob with Power Klaw and Boss Pole.

Yea, I was leaning in that direction myself. And not just because I didn't feel like scratch building two more gribblies with rokkits Two less rokkits (one's already built and I am out of ghouls) is another storm boy and a kombi-scorcha Whee!

Thanks for the input guys!
