I pre-ordered the new lizardmen 'dex and got to look through it at the store (also to find the force organization chart that I was asking for the location of earlier ). There were diagrams of mixed units (kroxigor and skinks, slann and saurus) but obviously there are rules specifically allowing those. I couldn't find anywhere saying that a skink preist could only join a unit of skinks, though. Could one join a unit of saurus?

Yes, he can. But in the case of the skink priest he would have to be in the front rank. beong in the second rank is a special rule for slann/kroxigors. It will also make your front look a little odd.

barring any special rules or psychology based stuff a character can join any unit he wishes. for odd shapes like the skink and the krox GW says putting the odd base on the side of the unit is perfectly acceptable.

Okay- instead of clogging things up with another new thread, I'd like to piggyback on this question:

How do you resolve ranks with multiple base sizes in a unit? One skink character, Tetto'eko, I believe should be placed on a 20mm base, and so doesn't change things, but another, Tehenhauin, goes on a 40mm base. Does that mean you can have less saurus with him and still have full ranks (for the second rank, for example)?

tenehuain can only be used with swarms so the point is irrelavant.

ALSO you do not have to put the character in the front rank - only the command unit. However Line Of Sight {LOS} spells will not work as he wont have LOS past the saurus.

From what I've read of the new codex in-store (although unfortunately I don't really know what I'm looking at yet):

-I didn't see that Tehenhauin had any restriction other than that normal for a special character as far as joining units? It did have a line about him affecting all the other skink in the army, I can't remember if it mentioned him joining a unit of skinks.
-Tetto'eko had a line specifically stating that if he joined a unit of skinks he did not have to be in the front rank, but I believe he would have to be for a unit of Saurus (unless it specifically said otherwise)

I might have found the answer to my own question about the base size / ranks in general... (bottom of page 3 in the updated GW FAQ... I believe released this month)

It depends... Tetto'eko might be an 'upgrade' like a special character that is a champion.. in this case he would HAVE to be in a skink unit. I've not yet gotten the new book so I will have to wait until then. Dont be fretting about making an army list unti the new book comes out though!
