Ok, So I know a mounted character can join a unit of infantry and is always placed in the front rank. If your running your infantry 5 man wide how many ranks does he displace.
If you place the model in the unit because he's on a 25mm x 50mm base he displaces slightly more than 2 rows if your infantry are only 20mm. So should I push the character on a mount forward and only displace two ranks. Or put him like he naturally fits and displace three?

I need to know because I'm making custom bases for my army. Can anyone give any guidance.

I appreciate any help in advance.

He counts for rank bonus based on how many models he displaces.

In the case of cavalry, he displaces 2 infantry models. In the specific case of 20mm infantry, he still only displaces 2 models, even though he'd push his file back slightly more than that. It leaves the unit a little uneven (he's also slightly wider than them), but that's okay.

It is OK to put him on the side of the unit and not in the middle of the front rank

I was just asking this question, too... here's what I found (bottom of page 3 in the right-hand column) I believe it was released this month as a part 2 of the GW FAQ?

I appreciate everyones replies. Somehow I read the new FAQ without ever seeing the relevant entry.
