What kind of a 1000pt army list for the Space Marines. (ULTRA MARINES) Against a 1000pt Tau army?? Having trouble. I have pretty much everything I can possibly have for a Space Marine army. And I mean everything. And help would be awsome. Thanks!!

What is the Tau running that gives you trouble?

There is no help.....Tau are just insane in 5th edition.....

Seriously though I hate Tau and would love to know what he is running so we can give you advice.

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

Outflank Scouts, Use Bikes, drop assault termies..
or if you have a LAnd Raider ..
But I find (sirprisingly) that scouts give them the most trouble, Just Infiltrate and Sit on the Objectives, or try to outsmart him and get an early charge
or just outflank

Only the insane have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane.

The thing about Tau is that they can really customize against MEQs. I made a list that could take on SMs but was wiped by orks in 3 turns. I think you need to limit the amount of shots they put on you, so drop pods seems like the best answer. Landraiders are also good if you have 2 or 3 of them.

3 'Podding Ironclads shoud mess up his plans in short order, with heavy flamers (2+ to kill FW )

So should i not use a bunch of tactical marines? Should i just put a bunch of armor on the board? Theres just not alot you can do with 1000pts.

My roommate ran drop pod marines, and I found them very hard to deal with. Drop a couple of dreadnoughts in drop pods with multimeltas right next to his hammerheads. Not only will you be within 12 inches for 2D6 armor penetration, but he won't get a disruption pod cover save. Also, if you run bikes, turbo boost them first turn to get the cover save, and then assault into his FW's on your next turn.

The Tau's main weakness is their BS of 3, so make sure you exploit that. He'll have to concentrate his firepower on one unit at a time to completely destroy it, so divide his attention as best you can. Drop pods do that really well.

If I were you, I would take 4 drop pods, 2 with dreadnoughts with Multimeltas and 2 with tac squads. Drop your the Dreads first turn right next to his hammerheads. Once those are out of the picture, work from two sides if possible, and push the Tau into the middle. Any time you can divide their fire is time well spent.

Only Dr. Cox knows how to express my innermost feelings for you and your arguments.

Either concentrate on Mech, Pods or both. Kill the HH that's giving you problems and the rest should be easier to handle.

Out of my head:

1xCaptain (or Librarian) @ 100pts
2x10 Tacs (Missile Launcher, Meltagun; Combi-Flamer) on Razorbacks @ 450pts
3xDreadnoughts (Multi Melta; Heavy Flamer) on Pods @ 450pts

Combat squad the Missile Launchers, put the rest on the Razorbacks and move forward, drop the 2 first Dreads on his face and take out the Railgun Hammerhead first.

Alternatively

1xCaptain (or Librarian) w/something @ 110pts
2x10 Tacs (Multi Melta, Flamer; Power Weapon) on Drop Pods @ 440pts
3xDreadnoughts (Multi Melta; Heavy Flamer) on Drop Pods @ 450pts

You definitely have an advantage over Tau in your ability to take crazy heavy weapons for relatively cheap on like every unit, so put heavy bolters and lascannons in all your tactical squads, dreadnoughts, and tanks, and hang back in cover to blast him from afar. The hammerheads are really the only things of his that can hang back effectively in the face of that.

I agree with everyone who said drop pods. Take a melta gun, hop out next to his beefiest tank, and fire away. Once you hit CC with your boys in blue he's done for. The trick, of course, is getting there.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

He's expensive point wise, but I'd go with kantor

Drop podding sterguard maddnes with combi meltas and 30" shots that ignore tau armour= WIN

Also, they are scoring units

then take scouts for cheap troop choices. and drop podding Ironclads to come in on the first turn.

I play (homegrown chapter)
Win 8
Draw1
Loss1
