Ok... so the board that we typically use is 8' by 4.5' it is an urban board, and I was thinking about making a monorail system for it.
My ideas for the rules are the following: Once per turn, a squad within 4" of the monorail station may board the monorail. It's maximum capacity is 12 models, or 6 if the models embarking on the monorail would normally fill 2 spaces in a transport. Only Infantry may use the monorail.
The monorail follows all of the normal rules for transports and moves at 24" per turn. however, the monorail can only move along the tracks and troops wishing to disembark must do so at the monorail stations. If the player chooses to disembark the squad before the monorail reaches the station, he must roll for each model. On a roll of a 1 the model takes a wound. Units disembarking in this way may not assault until the next turn.
There are 3 stations along the track, and the track meanders through the city, starting at one corner and ending in the opposite corner

Nice idea.
So the monorail is located at a "neutral" station at turn 1?
How long is the course of the monrail from station to station, i.e. turns needed to reach the next available disembarkation point?
Maybe change the monorail to move from 1 station to another in 1 turn.
Is the monorail "indestructable" ?
possible to shoot at the embarked passengers?
Maybe make it "indestructible" (so it survives) but also "open topped" (easier to embark/disembark).
If youre aiming high, get a railroad and take off the unneeded parts, add some 40k flavor and have a "real moving" monorail.

I had a similiar thing way back in 2nd Edition, except it was a subway system with marked entrances and exits. This way, you didn't have one big piece of terrain predetermining things. How it worked varied from game to game, but it essentially worked the same as your idea.

well, there is 1 car for each deployment zone, and they start just outside of said deployment zones

I have no idea... that might be easier... though maybe you can sabotage the station

To make it more useful I would put 1 car per station there and have it automatically move from one station to the next each turn. Now units have a strong reason take public transportation.

The models should be allowed to walk on the monorail, and take a test, if they roll one, they are hit by the monorail full speed, and die. on two, they jump off and grab the side to hold on, but cannot move next turn. Three or higher, they are fine.
