Subject: Non-mechanized non-Kroot Tau- viable?

I am interested in making a Tau army, but want it to be as different from my existing mech Marine army as possible, so I'm trying to avoid using mechanized units wherever possible. I also have a personal dislike for Kroot. Is it viable at all to have a Tau army with only unmechanized Fire Warriors as your Troops, and if so, how would you do such a thing? I like the theme of such an army, yet I am seriously worried about such an army's ability to actually claim objectives, since footslogging Fire Warriors are vulnerable to almost everything. One important thing is that we play locally with VPs houseruled in instead of KPs, so MSU is theoretically viable here.

Yeah, take Farsight and suck it up. Shoot them all to bits before they claim anything. Spam plasma rifles.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Sounds like "mobile infantry" styled gunline tau.
The answer is to use carbines, and farsight. The former let's a gunline have mobility, potentially claiming objectives, the latter will give you a good CC unit to form the core of the army around. Support the army with ASS equipped broadsides marching up in the rear. fill remaining points with stealth suits for grant cover saves to the army, and crisis suits to deal with av10-12 stuff.
Anyways, that's how I would do it.

Footslogging Fire Warriors are far to vulnerable imho. I don't think you can be competitive with them as 2/3 missions are objective missions. They really need a Devilfish to be more survivable so they can claim objectives in the end game.

If you have a farsight list, you better hope for two things:
1. That there is line-of-sight blocking terrain, because if you don't your guys will be shot to hell real quickly
2. That they aren't a speedy CC army. Strong bike lists will ruin you, as will any type of list that can close the gap quickly.

My suggestion: Realize that a transport or two does not a mech list make. FW's need their fish to remain competitive at this point
My list only runs 3 tanks. 2 Fish and a HH. I could easily cut the HH for another squad of Broadsides. Crisis Spam is in fact viable as long as you move away from the whole "I must field Fireknife config" mindset.
