I ask this because I was thinking of building a 40K history museum type thing as like a diorama or something.
I think that most people, and I mean most, have no idea that the Horus Heresy actually happened.
Depending on how far back into the 'grim dark' background of
40k you want to go, it used to be that every single person (including Space Marines) were mindwiped after they were exposed to xenos/daemons/chaos marines, etc. And if we were talking about an entire world, or somewhere where there were too many people to mind-wipe, they loaded them up, and moved em off-planet to some other Hive or place where they would work until dead, having no contact with anyone after being moved. Secrets and knowledge were guarded VERY closely.
And in just about every piece of background info, even possessing Xenos tech was a sign of 'taint'. So, while you might be able to get away with having a museum of xenos tech, or Heresy memorabilia if you were a High Lord of Terra, or an Inquisitor, anyone else would likely be in big trouble.
Of course, if your world was cut off from the Imperium, and not yet re-connected, you might have items such as these still in your possession. It is possible places like that exist in the vast universe. But anywhere in the connected Imperium, I'd be careful
