I dunno...

Get the HTML code (I think that's what it's called) and copy/paste it into your sig

Yup, go to your profile by clicking on your username, click on the 'click here to edit your profile' link and then just put the relevant HTML in the sig editing area. You can get the HTML from the gallery if you are using a gallery thumbnail image, or a general explanation of the code from other websites (a quick google on HTML images will help you out).

If 'google HTML images' was not clear enough, then read this (third result from that search):

It still won't work the only thing I get to see are little squares which contain a blue square, a green circle and a red triangle.

That sounds like Netscapes image place holder. Make sure if you're using the location for a picture that you type the html correctly. Some servers are specifically case sensitive, as is mine, so I have to be precise on the html. Also, I think the forums have a size limit of 150 pixels height max for images used in signatures.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

That's just a written rule; as far as I've seen you can put a stupidly big picture in your sig, but you'll probably get modsmacked. And rightly so.
