Hello all,

I'm facing a 3000 point battle against my friend this coming weekend, his Eldar vs. my SoB & inducted Imperial Guard.

I'm taking 6 x arco-flagellants as I have found them actually pretty usefull as one shot 'shock' units, especially against things such as rangers, guardians or othr non-elites / non-assault oriented units. Alternatively they are not too shabby at counter-assaulting & I know I will be up against Banshees, Scorpions & Harlequins.

Now, I have to take an Imperial Preacher to field the arco's but I'm in two minds as to which unit to attach him to. My only two troop units w'out a heavy weapon are a 10 x SoB squad with 2 x flamers, or a 50 x Conscript squad with 5 x flamers (Zen & the art of tar-pitting).

Suggestions?

If it's stupid & it works, it's not stupid.

If your opponents will let you attach it to the conscripts (as you can not normally IIRC) give the preacher an Evicerator and he'll take care of one of the conscripts big weaknesses, Dreadnoughts. With out support conscripts just die to Walkers. The eviserator should help.

Good point re: the eviscerator. I have a plethora of meltas & multi-meltas carried by various squads in support so anti-tank is pretty well catered for.

I'm pretty sure the codex allows preachers to be attached to any troop types (I'm at work just now so it's not to hand).

I fully expect the conscripts die horribly whatever happens. I'll either deploy them as a screen for my army as they advance to contact (the thin green line that turns to pale red mist) or mass them on one flank to act as a speed-bump against assaults.

IIRC you are allowed to attach priests to Repentia, Sisters, Inq. Stormtroopers and Dominions, although in an apoc game I wouldn't have a problem with attaching them to conscripts.

They have the best obvious synergy with Repentia (especially when armed with eviscerators) but that means playing with Repentia, sigh....

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

I will have to mooch over the SoB codex carefully this evening. We're not playing Apoc but just a big 40K battle.

Although we play friendly battles with FoC's in mind & aren't slavishly following tournament rules we try not to deviate too far from them.

Any 'wobbles' or point overruns we highlight to one another & frequently there's a degree of "Well, if you're over your points total how's about I pick the board edge I deploy on?"

If it's stupid & it works, it's not stupid.

Got my answer now.

From the SoB codex priests can be attached to Inducted Imperial Guard Infantry Squads (p27).

The current IG codex allows me to take one Conscript Infantry Platoon for every Normal Infantry Platoon, which I will be taking as well (p45). The same page sidebar states that these function as a single unit of 20-50 conscripts.

If it's stupid & it works, it's not stupid.
