What are some of the uses of grotz?

1. What would make someone take them other than thier just cool models?
2. Can they hold thier own in a battle?
3. Do they have any good rules?
4. Is thier anything a runt hearder can do that is better than a regular boy?

"They shall be my finest Cannon Fodder, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I will mold them and in the furnace of war they will become cracked and broken. They will be of tissue paper and whimpy muscle. In tissue paper armor I clad them and with the mightiest flashlights they will be armed. They will be touched by every sort of plauge or disease to help further make them unhappy, all sickness will blight them. They will have almost no tactics, strategies, but lots of machines so that they can atleast stand up to a foe in battle. They are my tar pit against the Terror. They are the bulk of Humanity. They are my Imperial Guard and they will know much fear!"

I'm assuming you're referring to Gretchin.

1. Incredibly cheap scoring models that are surprisingly resilient to shooting attacks when in cover

2. Not really. A huge gang of gretchin are approximately as effective as an equal points value of Guardsmen with no special weapons while shooting, and terrible in the assault.

3. The usefulness of their special rule 'Grot's Life' depends on how often your opponent will utilize minefields.

4. With Grot Prods, a full unit of Gretchin and their 3 Runtherds can kill the Nightbringer.

I think you all have missed the most important use of Grotz. They provide cover saves for the rest of the army if put in front of them.... at least for the first round. But if they makes it possible for you to reach and assult the enemy with 25/30 instead of 15/30 it makes a h_ll of a differance....

Hey don't you have to have 1 runt hearder per 10 grotz so if you had 11 grotz you need 2 runt hearders.
I hear alot about this and I want to be sure.

No. It's one Runtherd for every 10 Gretchin so take 19 Gretchin and you only have to take 1 Runtherd. Or 29 Gretchin and 2 Runtherder's.

Tied and gagged in the back of your car

You're only allowed to reroll any event once.

Also, grots are best used as a wall(be it against shooting or against a charging opponent) or as an objective holder. Short of that, you're simply better off getting more boyz. Grotz are far too weak to be of any offensive use, and any damage that they may do in battle should be thought of as a huge bonus.

So what about a Runt herder whats some good gear for him?
What is the use of the Grot prod?
Grabba i'm pretty sure lowers the enemys attack by 1.
Squigg lets you re-roll moral tests.
And im not sure about the whip if it does anything.

The Grot Prod is the only peice of gear he can take.

Grot Prod is a Poisoned Weapon (wounds on 4+ regardless of Toughness)

Yes it does. It's also his default tool.

Yes it does, and it also eats D3 Grots

The whip is just for show. He'll lose the whip when he comes out in plastic.

Good for an assault screen, especially in front of shoota boyz. Put the grots an inch or so in front of your boyz, with less than 1" between each grot. If a nasty assault unit like Death Company or Assault Terminators tries to assault you, they won't be able to reach your boyz, and they will wipe out the grots. That leaves them sitting out in the open for you to shoot and charge on your turn.

Do make sure the enemy cannot get into contact with your boyz when you do this however. If the enemy can squeeze through to get the boyz, you will probably lose the whole unit thanks to No Retreat! wounds.

Another handy trick with objective-holding grots is get them into cover and have them go to ground. Very frustrating to your opponent to shoot at a grot with a 3+ cover save (unless they are shooting flamers, in which case you are stuffed).

Actually the new plastic comes with an arm with a whip!

I put gretchin with a SAG on an objective. It draws a lot of enemy fire.

Yeah, the new kit makes a pretty perfect squad with slaver and squighound

Sigh, I miss the olden days when the slaver could take a big shoota or rokkit, that was a great nuisance unit
