I'm kind of new to painting. I have some models that I basecoated poorly and they got those gritty/clumpy sections on some parts of various infantry models (fire warriors). I used acrylic spray primer. I like to do detailed work - well for me anyway - and I'm afraid that after my last batch, this squad it going to really be frustrating, but I don't know how to proceed exactly.

Should I:

A. Spray more primer to even it out?
B. Strip & start over?
C. Just paint on 'em?
D. Something else?

Thanks for any advice from you more advanced painters.

I would recommend lightly scraping the clumps off of the models then carefully brushing on whatever paint color matches your basecoat.

Soak the bases in a little bit of water to loosen up the glue and then scrape it off with a knife.

Er,

I guess I should've specified basecoat, not the decorating of the actual base of the model. Sorry!

Strip them. Additional primer over a lumpy job isn't going to smooth it out.

Yep, as much as I'd like to say a little light sanding will improve it, it really won't. I wound up with a fuzzy Land Raider that way. :(

Depends how bad.

If they would look OK from a distance, keep them as is and work on some new ones for your army.

If it's really clumpy, you could try flicking it off with a hobby knife.

Stripping would be good but can be problematic.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice guys.

I picked out 12 FWs that are good or only slightly fuzzy. I'll paint that squad up while the others are stripping. I don't want fuzzy fire warriors.

Grainy paint will also absorb lots and lots of paint. I mean, you'll find
yourself pouring more before you start to see proper coverage anyway.

Not that I've tried or anything.

Its ok Malfred, we have all tryed to paint over the problem once...

Ya your better of stripping, I had that happen with Nobz, despite my atempt to paint over it I ended up with a model completely painted except that one spot where the paint would never stay >.<
