Theres a breif mention in the annhillation section of the BGB,

so yee of dakka, I ask you: -

- What counts as a victory point?

- When/how does that point get scored?

- (I know IG are gibbed and it must vary over armies but) What kind of no. of KP's would be optimal for 1k, 1.5k, 1750, 2k etc.

Thanks.

Well, two missions require taken objectives and the other requires to gather kill points.
Victory points were played in the 4th ed. By the way, in the GT final, we played with victory points as a secondary scoring scheme in order to get a finer ranking.

But kill points > I mixed my terms there. What constitues somthing worthy of a KP? Basically every singular thing?

The BGB states:
At the end of the game, each player receives 1 'kill point' for each enemy unit that has been completely destroyed.

Seems to answer your first two questions (assuming you actually mean 'kill point' and not victory point).

As to your third question, if you are playing an IG army you better wait for the new codex. Untill that time, just try to go for a Wipeout! IG just bleed KP's so it's hopeless if you don't eliminate your opponent's entire force.

Im fielding an eldar force (My second ever!) and its 1500. It has 11 Kill points. (2hqs, 4 troops, 1 elite, 1 fast attack, 3 heavy supports)

But be aware of the fact that transports provide separate kill points.

Ayup, hence my assumption on each singular unit (anything that can act independantly)

Is 11 steep, okay or very well optimised (Well I know it isnt because I could happily spend 1500 on about 6 killpoints for eldar)

the thing to bear in mind is that you need multiple units to score/contest in objective missions.

You have a theoretical minimum of 3 KP's/army (your compulsary HQ and two troops) although I can't think of any army that could get close to 1500 pts just by doing that!

So, lower numbers 'optimise' you for annihilation missions, but the problems here are:
1. Big targets - no matter how much pain the uber-unit can dish out, its likely to be big and hard to hide, hence it will get shot and sooner or later, you will roll ones!!! Its also vunerable to pie and burny death.
2. Control - when playing objective missions, especially when there are 4-5 objectives on the board, low numbers of units make it hard to effectively control territory.

Its worth noting that armies which are built to table opponents and Nob bikers need not worry as they circumvent both problems.

As a rule of thumb, though, try to keep your KP's in single figures for a 1500pt game where possible and you should do ok.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Man, design your armies to win then bother with the KP count. If 2 smaller units will do you better than 1 big unit, take the 2 smaller ones.

Tis what ive done. All the units that are there want to be there and couldnt be there in any other form.
