I just grinded through the 11+ page Nob biker post in tactics and left with these questions....

Can you use Feel no Pain when you fail any of these? A failed 4+ cover from a Lascannon shot? A failed 5+ invulnerable from power weapon?

I assume no after reading FnP rule in BRB, but maybe I'm missing something. It seemed from reading that this was somehow possible. Enlighten me.

On Multi-assaults.... Must you declare a multi-assault? Or just do what BRB says on page 34?

I'm looking for claification on these rules so when I spread word I'm not in the wrong.

Thanks

FNP is only allowed when the weapon wouldn't cause instant death or if the weapon allows an armour save. So in the case of the lascannon (because it would cause instant death) and power weapon (no armour saves) no.

I'm not sure what you mean about declaring multi assaults. You must always assault the "targetted" unit, but as long as the first model reaches that assault the other members are allowed to make contact and assault other units (as long as they obey the coherency and assaulting rules).

Unfortunately, there is no magical loophole which allows FNP to be used against disqualifying hits. Whether or not you have a cover save or an invulnerable save, AP 1, AP2, and weapons which disallow all regular saves prevent FNP. In the same way, an AP3 weapon doesn't prevent FNP if the target unit has a 4+ save.

You are correct that multi-assaults do not require a declaration in 5th. Like the rules say, after you've engaged the single unit against which you declared the assault, you can assault anything else you can legally reach (coherency, movement distance, etc.) simply by moving into base to base contact.

Elaborate, please?

Elaboration: AP1, AP2, and weapons that never grant a save disallow FNP. AP3 is none of those, therefore it does not prevent FNP.

A new day, a new time zone.

Back when 5th ed was newer, there was a line of argument that shots that ignored regular armor saves also ignored FNP. So if IG someonhow got FNP, they wouldn't be able to take it against bolters, and orks would be able to roll FNP against multi-lasers, but not much else.

Yep, and now, most of us know that line of argument to be incorrect.
