In between commissions for various clients (http://www.bkarmypainting.com) , I've been continuing to work on my Altansar Eldar. Here is my latest progress: Wraithguard of the Altansar Craftworld.

So what do y'all think?

I think I can't see the pics :(

Which is a shame, as I will be painting my Wraithguard Altansar too.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Okay, new hosting for the pics.

I still can't see the pics. In fact, that bkarmypainting.com page in general isn't loading up for me. I suggest PhotoBucket.com.

Moz:
You: "Hold on, you rammed, that's not a tank shock"
Me: "Ok so what is a ram, lets look at the rules."
Rulebook: "A ram is a special kind of tank shock"
You: "So it's a tank shock until it hits a vehicle, and then it's a ram, not a tank shock, and then it goes back to being a tank shock later!"
Me: "Yeah it doesn't really say any of that in here, how about we just play by what's written in here?"

I can see the pics, they look great!

but for some reason your orange gems looks less like
a gem compared to your green ones ( the darkest part is only red it seems )

There are actually four different colors of gems. There's green (on the chest and gun), and three other colors - purple (on the wraithcannons), red (on the head) and yellow/amber on the bodies.

You really should just attach them at dakka (and then add them to your army profile)

I think yellow will look better with brown dark parts.

I'm going to be contrary to other comments here, and say that while the gems are nicely executed, I think the 4 different colours actually disrupt the unity of the squad colour scheme. It's too many colours overall IMO.

"Bloodstorm! Ravenblade! Slayer of worlds! Felt the power throb in his weapon. He clutched it tightly in his hand and turned towards his foe letting it build in the twin energy spheres and then finally! RELEASE! The throbbing weapon ejaculated burning white fluid over them as Bloodstorm! Ravenblade! laughed manfully!" - From the epic novel, Bloodstorm! Ravenblade! Obliterates! the! I sorta agree with this.
First of all, the bases are looking grea, so does the overall scheme for the guard. Very crisp, clean and well executed.
But I find the number of different colored gems a bit "disturbing". I can see why you didnt go with all green, because that would
simply be too much saim han then. The red on the head is fitting as well, but the orange/yellow gems really do seem a bit odd
on there.

Otherwise, cool stuff. And I still have no idea what your concerns with the red are lol. You seem to be doing just fine

Sometimes I like the amber gems...sometimes I don't. I think I should have gone to brown as an intermediate step before hitting the orange...

Then again, from a distance, it looks really good. It only becomes somewhat overwhelming up close, and then only from certain angles.

And painting up the number of Bloodcrushers I had to do for my Daemons cured me of my fear of the color red as a primary color, plus I've learned what happens when I hit the models with various color washes.

The Wraithgaurd look great! But if you want a little bit of critique I can offer you this.

The lava basses appear to be underdone. Try a yello base for the lava with a ogryn flesh wash followed by a magenta wash. Its still quick and will give you a smoother transition between the colors. Also would like to see some more contrast in the blacks/whites for the stone. Very very light watered down layers of reddish browns in areas of the stone will also add to the work to complement the reds in the model.

They look excellent, nice one.

Have you had success with the big wraithgaurd squad? I considered it too as I am also starting an Eldar army at the moment and had considered that for a tough scoring unit.

Haven't played any games yet. Pure theoryhammer on Eldar list building at this point. I'm planning to go with 2 squads of dire avengers and 1 squad of wraithguard as troops, with Maugan Ra as one HQ accompanied by a squad of harlequins, and 2 wraithlords and dark reapers.

The second HQ will essentially depend on the venue. For tournaments, Eldrad's a no-brainer. For friendlier games, I may drop Eldrad for a regular farseer.

Hah! That is more or less the exact same scheme I was planning, except for the neck pieces being black.

I was considering ivory instead of white "heads" though.

Oooohhhh... purty. These look very nice. Did you make the bases or are they resin-casts? Also, any reason why you did the white heads so pristine (which looks beautiful) but drybrushed the tabards? The difference in the clean and the dusty is a bit off-putting.

Actually, the heads are a bit dustier in person...it's not coming through in the pics, probably because of the white one white gets messed up by my color correction and the like.

That sound slike an interesting list. I am going 4 dire avenger squads with eldrad and the avatar and 3 WL's with harlies and dragons.

I got Yriel and Maugan Ra too, plus some warlocks and Karanadras in case I want a tough assault unit.

Dark Reapers, huh? Interesting choice, you think they will be worth it with all the cover saves floating around or are you planning on going indirect fire with them?

Sorry to derail the thread, just curious as I am getting my eldar up and running right now too.

Figured I had to include some Dark Reapers for an Altansar army. Exarch with tempest-launcher and crack shot was a no-brainer, really.

I have always found that reaper set up to be not much more than an annoyance, seems a steep price for one indirect weapon. You must have better luck with it than I have.

Well, good luck with it, the army looks fantastic.
