Questions.

1. Why do they list the toughness of a mount if it is never used? Example Exalted champ on a Juggernaut. Its toughness is higher but never used. Also says it has one wound but that is never used as well. Am I missing something? Are Juggernaut's worth taking and why?

2. Wanted to make an army that does not have a wizard in it till 1000pts. League is 500pts then 750pts and so on till 2000pts. Can an army survive with out a wizard till 1000pts in your opinion. Warriors of chaos and Ogre Kingdom's in particular.


Will probably have more questions but these 2 seem to be the most pressing.

1. They add it for completeness in case they want to change the rules in the next edition. Monstrous mounts can be shot out from under you (if >1 wound) but ALL of them could be shot/killed in H2H in previous editions.

2. They can definitely survive to 1000 points. Last year HEs won a 60 man tourney here at 3000 points without a single mage. You'll just have to accept that you will take wounds from magic.
Just be really, really careful vs VCs, TKs and now chaos. I'd allways take a scroll caddy when facing them.

I don't believe that cavalry mounts could be shot out from underneath their riders (though maybe that was possible pre-4th Ed.) but back in 4th it was possible to kill the creatures pulling chariots so the stats were actually used.

I read that the comming soon Lizardmen are incredibly strong in combat now instead of relying on slann mages.
Maybe you can give them a try? mass fielding abunch of stegadons is so tempting.

Had the lizardmen book for a few hours today.

The saurus are indeed very good now.
But stegadon spam will be a 1 trick pony as the special slot steggie costs 235 (essentially same stats as current army book steggie) and the ancient is even more... for +1 st and -1 attack. You'll run out of points very quickly.
Then again you can run the old blood led lizardmen very well even now, they tend to do better than the slaan led lizzies here in Australian tourneys.

Good question Sha1emade- I had the same one, and you've gone and gotten it answered for me

I am not sure about the Juggernaut in the Chaos army book but in the Daemon book they are considered regular calvary and not a monsterous mount. Therefore you cannot kill the mount unless you kill the rider (which will take the mount with it).

As for if they are worth it, it depends on the bonuses they bring you. As a daemonic mount they add +3 to armour save, are subject to Hated and Killing blow abilities if the rider gets them. WS5 S5 T4 M7.

But check the army book you use to make sure what bonuses you get.

And if the mount has the higher Toughness then I believe you use that toughness for the model. But I would have to reread the rules to be 100% sure of that.

You may use the mounts stats for any stat test you are forced to take i.e. toughness test, initiative test, if the mounts stats are better than the riders. But the riders toughness is always used in combat.

Yup, It says that you can use the stat that gives the model the best chance to pass.
