I believe I want to undertake a project for the escalation league I'm in. I want to design my Eldar around the concept of MC spam, so I'm going to get a couple wraithlords and convert them. One thing I like about the wraithlord kit is that it is highly convertible. I've already done a simple leg repositioning to create a wratihlord that is running forward. I was thinking of the following ideas:

A wraithlord with a shield and wraithsword - Any ideas on this one? Perhaps I could take a piece of that plasticard stuff and make a square "Roman" type shield, and use green stuff for the metal parts of it.

a wraithlord with a great hammer - This could be very simple if I could find the right bit. Any ideas, perhaps from WHFB mini's?

a wraithlord with a flail - I was thinking that I could pick up some sort of cheap chain, perhaps costume jewelry. Has anyone tried anything of this sort?

Sword and Board - Its eldar, a square romanesque shield would be outta place in a force that prides itself on their elegance and beauty. Do plasticard, but make it a flowing smooth shield.

Greathammer - Again, elegane is the key here, the brute force end of the hammer doesn't have to be flashy, but you know they would probably have some form of symbolism embedded in the head over all. Thing to consider, What craftworld are you doing, what symbols do they use in their icons and such, Greenstuffing a hammer head based on symbols is not too difficult.

Flail- Easiest of them all. Get a bit of jewelers chain and add spikey balls ot it.

Hope that was helpful.

I agree on the shield. I bet a more oval shaped shield would be more at home with your idea. Eldar arnt very hip on squares. The rest of your ideas sound really good tho. good luck on it all!

I thought of that, which is what makes Eldar stuff so hard to convert and look good, its all about curves and organic shapes, which are inherently harder to do than squares and blocks.

The great hammer wouldn't look like something a daemon would carry. I'm thinking something like the glass hammer from Oblivion, or something.

A lot of hobby shops will have small, cheap chain available for doing model ships. On a 28mm model the chain I got looked kind of like it would be big heavy-duty chain.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

What about nunchucks? Give the WL a Bruce Lee style stance/pose: one end of the chucks tucked under into it's "armpit" and the other end in it's fist? Or one step further, give it a three-piece staff!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

use another wraithlord's head. That's what I am doing.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

although i think an oval shield would be better, you should get the tau vehicle entry point doors. they're circular and big enough to be believable as a spartan-greek size circular shield on a wraithlord. just don't forget to put some eldar icons on the front!
