Long time 40K player, looking to make the plunge into square bases.
I am choosing this list based purely off of what models I like. I have a basic understanding of Fantasy, bought the book and have been looking it over but have never played. I chose the size of units off of what comes in box sets mostly, and if anyone could give me some pointers on if this is a decent army to begin with that would be great. I pretty much just made a guess on the magic items according to what looked good or names I have heard before, I honestly have no clue as to what is good or not.
One thing, Wardancers are a must, they are the mian reason I want to play Woodelves. Everything else is flexible.
2250 Points
Lords:
Wardancer Lord, Blades of Loec
Noble, Great Stag, Sword of Might
Spellsinger, Level 2,Dispell Scroll
Noble, Waywatcher Kindred, Hail of Doom Arrow
Core:
Glade Guard, 16 strong
Glade Gaurd, 16 Strong
Dryads, 12 strong
Dryads, 12 Strong
Glade Riders, 8 strong
Special:
Wardancers, 15 strong, full command
Rare:
Treeman
Waywatchers, 6 strong
So I am willing to guess this is not the greatest list ever, but you have to start somewhere and I like all of these models quite a bit. Any tips you really be appreciated, thanks.

Not a bad start and not bad for someone who has never played Fantasy. I can think of some improvements however.
Lords:
Wardancer Lord, Blades of Loec
Noble, Great Stag, Sword of Might
Spellsinger, Level 2,Dispell Scroll
Noble, Waywatcher Kindred, Hail of Doom Arrow
Honestly none of these are that good. Keep the Wardancer Lord if you want to make a themed list but he'd probably be just as effective as a Noble as a Lord. The Noble on a Great Stag looks pretty good on paper but is hard to incorporate into a Wood Elf army. I'd say ditch him entirely and spend the points elsewhere. If you must keep him, I'd consider switching the Glade Riders for Wild Riders and sticking him there. The Spellsinger scroll caddy is fine but Wood Elves are an army I'd consider taking a Lvl 4 in. There's an item that let's you recast Tree-singing and you can literally spam this spell and move the trees all over to your opponents annoyance. The last Noble doesn't need to be part of the Waywatcher Kindred. Give him a great weapon and stick him in the Alter Kindred too. Incredibly annoying and can be used like an Eagle to chase down units and kill Warmachines.
Core:
Glade Guard, 16 strong
Glade Gaurd, 16 Strong
Dryads, 12 strong
Dryads, 12 Strong
Glade Riders, 8 strong
If you don't have musicians in the Elf units, that's the first thing. Second is to split them up into units of 10. Smaller units of Archers are typically better as you can get more firing. The dryads are fine but personally I like units of 8 as typically you can't get more than 7 models into the front rank of a unit and this gives you more units. I really like Glade Riders and find they do a great job of harassing enemy units, baiting and fleeing and then supporting with Flank charges late in the game. They need a musician as well and probably shouldn't be bigger than 6.
Special:
Wardancers, 15 strong, full command
Again, it's not likely that you'll get more than 7 into a front rank so I'd split this into two units of 8 each with full command. You can do this from the saved points above. If points are tight, full command isn't really necessary on these units.
Rare:
Treeman
Waywatchers, 6 strong
Waywatchers are beautiful models and look great on paper, but I'm still not convinced of their utility. I'd say you'd get better mileage from a unit of scouts (core) and use the second rare slot for an Eagle. If you like the models, use the Waywatcher models as your scouts. Scouts are pretty expendable and cheaper than the Waywatchers so you can use them to bait and flee through forests, march block, pick off lone characters, and other suicide missions.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Ozy! I appreciate the input. I was starting to think the list was so terrible that it wasn't worth salvaging!
Yeah the great stag just is a beautiful model and honestly that is why I was looking at it.
So split up into MSU's and upgrade the spellsinger to level 4.
I was also looking at switching the glade riders to wild riders as they match up better with the great stag lord.
You think I should go for my lord as the spellsinger and then drop the wardancer to a noble? Sounds good. Those guys hit hard right? Like Harlies?
So how about this as a rough draft:
Spellsinger Lord lv4
Wardancer Lord
Lord on Great Stag (love the model!)
Lord with great weapon (what unit would he go in? With the dryads withhis kindred ability, or the other wardancers?)
Glade Gaurd 10, musician
Glade Guard 10, musician
Glade Guard 10, musician
Dryads 8
Dryads 8
Dryads 8
Glade Riders 6, full command
Wardancers 7, full command
Wardancers 7, full command
Wildriders 5, full command
Treeman
Eagle

I'm guessing you mean Nobles on the other three? The Alter Kindred Noble with great weapon doesn't need to go in any unit, he runs around Nike style shooting off his Hail of Doom and beating up small units/warmachines.
Other than that the second draft looks a lot better. Wood Elves can be tricky to learn how to play for a Fantasy beginner, but once you get their tactics down they are one of the most powerful and annoying armies out there.

Oh got ya, like the Nike Saruas I read about with Lizardmen. I love the two noble archer models, i think I will pick up both just to paint if not use.
And yes, Nobles, not all lords, sorry about that.
Cool, I priced it out and that army isnt that expensive either money wise, relatively speaking of course. I am going to order it once I get back, I am looking forward to finally playing fantasy.
I am assuming i get hosed my first few games but I have been playing wargames since I was knee high to a grasshoper, I will figure out whats going on pretty quickly.
