Right its come to that time of year again when I start thinking about next seasons GT as such i am currently deciding which army to take,
being as its the UK GT this year I am looking to qualify as a minimum and hopefully start reaching the top spots within the tables
as such the two armies i have been toying around with are Lash Chaos and Orks (most probably the green horde of death)
so i ask you guys what do you think is best to take obviously points limitations are 1500, i have a few list ideas but nothing solid yet so i am always open to suggestions

Judging by the infamy of Nob bikers on these boards, I can imagine that most players will take as many counters to such forces as they can.

I agree with fafnir. However i'm getting ballzy with my list since I only plan on attending the later GT's in the lear i'm not bringing any anti nob biker hoping that with everyone in the early tournaments bringing sooo much that they'll scre all the nob bikers away for the later rounds.
Anyway,
If your looking to be competitive why not run daemons or new marines they're competitive and not as predictible on the top tables. But they require their wielder to have a brain.

Another suggestion might be greentide orks. It's 'spensive, but since most people are meta-gaming for nob bikers, they aren't going to be as prepared for massive horde armies, and tideorks are the best of the hordes.

Lash chaos....done, boring.
Nobbiker orks...been there.
Horde Orks...done that.
(orks in general will prolly be too numerous of an army to complete if you're just now starting.)

Slow & purposeful.. so atleast it doesnt matter speed-wise if they run (slowly shuffle) towards cover like sissy sisters.

I would plan on taking IG if your tourney if it is after the new codex comes out. I would imagine that GW will build in some checks and balances for the current meta-game. Not to mention that no one will have played a lot of games vs it, so you may have an element of surprise.

If GW pull it off properly, Imperial guard will be good vs the current powerbuilds (the whole metagame thingy). Since they're one of two shooty armies in 40K, opponents won't be geared for them either. Unless the new codex gives us Nob bikers of course.

aye guard are kind of an interesting point, until the codex comes out (can't wait at least GW won't push that release back like my beloved Final Fantasy 13, i actually hate Square Enix more than GW now) you just can't be sure how good they are going to be, and well i want to start putting the army together now so i dont have to rush the entire army during the summer time and get no real playtest time
still interesting discussion keep the ideas coming

Maybe KoS Orks? Not sure if it's a 'power list'. Maybe if you go the 'tryanid' route and bring a KoS/Greentide hybrid. Field Trukk Boys as MSU's, and use them to tie up/ block LOS to your larger footslogging units. I'm not an Ork player, and don't have much experience playing against them so all these suggestions might be bollocks. OR if everybody is tuned for Nob Bikers as seems to be expected this all may just different enough to win you games through your opponent's lack of preparations.

Lash is still good.
Orks of all varieties seem to be very solid these days. I'm not sure which way I'd go with them, but I like Loota spam and Dredd Bash lists a lot and the whole Nob Bikes things is so overhyped at this point.
The new Marines book has so much strong stuff in it that I'm sure there are at least a couple of competetive builds within the pages.
I'm building Lash personally. After playing with the Marines book more and more I regret it and wish I was building something Space Marines.

I wasn't aware they had any particular weakness. Speed, multiple wounds, multiple attacks, ability to blow up landraiders or kill big creatures, etc. etc.

Well one downside to nob bikers is they don't scale well. UK GT (which is what the OP is attending) is 1500 points, which is too low for nob bikers in their most viable form.
I don't think you can go wrong with either orks or lash chaos if gunning for the top table

aye if thats the case then what would you suggest as a horde ork list i don't have a lot of experience with orks (the last time i played with them was 2nd edition so i'm still trying to work out a list).
I understand how to play them but i want to get to know the army now so i can play with them constantly over the summer and before to get some decent practice in before i attend.
for 1500 points i'm think Ghazgull is a bit extravagant being as i'm not taking nobs on the drawing board at the moment is this:
2x KFF Meks
6x 20 Boyz (probably even mix of shootas and sluggas) with Nob PK
rest of the points in Lootas (should have enough for 3 units of 10 i think
how viable would this be obviously its pretty simple, Orks charge forward with cover saves and get to grips with the enemy pretty quickly whilst the Lootas hang back and try and nuke anything that looks in any sense nasty?
what you guys think?

If you want to build the most competitive horde Orks list you can, than I'd advise you to take Loota's in maximum size squads (15 each). Ork Boyz should all be carrying a Shoota. You might want to experiment with their unit size (20 or 30) and see what suits you best.

Eh, there are plenty of degenerations awaiting any list that relies heavily on a large (physically, at least -- 11 bikers take up a lot of space on the table top) extremely expensive unit. I'm sure we'll see a lot of that degeneracy this GT season.
Part of the worry about Nob Bikerz, though, is that one of the stronger SM counters (Ironclads with HFs boosted by Vulkan) is also quite good against diametrically opposed horde lists.
