I have a friend with an Eldar army that fields 4 10xAvenger squads in Serpents (TL Brightlances) and 3 Fireprisms as his main force. How do I beat that with Tyranids? I have painted for my Tyrandids: 40 spinegaunts, 20 hormagaunts, 14 genestealers, 9 raveners, 3 zoanthropes, 3 Dakkafexes, 3 vennom cannon and barbed strangler Fexes, 1 flying Dakka Tyrant, and a Broodlord. I see little hope for victory and need help from people brighter than me for army advice and tactical advise.

Edit: 1750 army lists.

Does anybody have suggestions or do I just kiss my hind quarters good bye?

I guess the insane bladestorming range of the Serpents and the prisms are hard to overcome. Understandable.
A tip is that you make the spinegaunt units rather small. Then a avenger unit unloading its catapults would overkill the small gaunt units where a bigger unit would suffer more. Additional units behind the gaunt wall would still get a precious 4+ save, making the decision what to shot first difficult.

Numbers:
Avengers unloading with xcatapult exarch:
27 shots, 18 hits, 12 wounds
5 shots, 4 1/6 hits, 2 7/9 wounds

Minimal brood size is 8...go figure.

Just a small tip, because I haven't played my tyranids against Eldar yet, because I play them myself.

Use many units of gaunts without number, go second, claim objectives.

If its annihilation, do not bring them back onto the table.

Broodlord +Feeder tendrils outflank with Genestealers + Acid Maw = a load of pain.

Raveners, I have very mixed results with in 5e. Generally the deathspitter works well here too though.

Hormagaunts I field almost never now. Very rarely worth it.

Thanks for the replies. The idea about small squad sizes is interesting. I am concerned if we play kill points though.

True, I was only a theoretical idea that occurred me when I saw the army list with all those avengers, take it with a grain of salt.
