How's it looking?
She Who Must Be Obeyed has determined we will be seeing that this weekend. It looks like it involves Nazis getting machine gunned which is always a good thing.
Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

It got mixed reviews. I liked it. Maybe a bit too action hero for a purist, but meh.
It has MP40s, MG34s, a Panzer III, PPSh-41s, and a SS officer being beaten to death by refugees from extermination where you actually feel a little bad for the guy. Just a little, though.

How is Daniel Craig in this movie? I have a hard time disassociating him with Bond, as those are the only two films I've ever seen him in

That's because of the chair torture scene, isn't it?
He was also in Layer Cake. You need to see that.

I preferrd Quantum to Casino, and yeah, chair torture may be a factor. I've never even heard of Layer Cake. I'll hit the netflix later.

Layer cake is excellent. I thought it was the worst of the Holy Triumvirate, but still righteously excellent.

Daniel Craig is good. Both leads are. I found them very convincing (you know actually acting) in their roles. Craig's character seemed to genuinely struggle with the situation but be possessed of an idealistic optimism and sense of protection for his community. Schrieber's Zus was driven by revenge for the losses that were suffered and conflicted over his brother's leadership position in the community that he saw as having rejected them (I actually really liked that character even if he was "quiet gruff badass" ala the old Westerns).
The love bit between Craig & Davalos seemed a little tacked on (under developed maybe?) but meh, she was hot.

Schrieber owns 'Quiet Gruff Badass' roles in general.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Saw it. Liked it. The two brothers were believable as tough guys, unlike tom Cruise.
Ironically, She Who Must Be Obeyed remembers a Bielski family in her old childhood neighborhood in Chicago. Dumb as rocks but very very tough.
