Im starting this blog for photos as my project to build my Grand Tournament armies for next years tournment. I was hoping to finish the models in time for this year but that never happened as life got in the way a bit. The basic army lists are as follows:

Good Army:
Prince Imrahil on Horse with a Lance.
28 Knights of Dol Amroth on Horses and Lances.

Evil army:
Khamul the Esterling on a Armoured horse.
40 Esterling Kataphrakts.

I have always liked the idea of a mass cavalry army and these fit the theme perfectly. I have started on the models already and i will post some photos tomorrow showing the progress so far. The only downside to cavalry is painting 2 lots of models, one mounted and one on foot. Im going to try and finish the Good army before the evil army. Im also planning some form of display base for them to transport them around.

Any comments positive or negative are welcome.

Nice lists.

I played in a LOTR tourney a year or two back against an all mounted Rohan force. It was after the first shooting phase (I play Rangers) that I found out he had no 'on foot' models. Made the game significantly easier for me

Heres some photos of progress so far. slow but sure progres. Any comments or critique good or bad are welcome. Im struggling to find a good way to paint red.

Prince Imrahil:

Knights on foot started:

Although not in the final army list i started painting this model as i may still field it:

As for basing at the moment i am not sure. I am thinking grassy with maybe the odd hint of small rocks to represent grassy plains. For Imrahil though im thinking something more fancy, not sure what though.

I do have several more models that i have started painting but they are no more than undercoated realy so i felt there was no point in me photographing them.

Nice idea. Like the red ideay for the red: Scab red followed by some red gore then blood red and highlighted by orange. You may need a few coats to get a non-streaky finnish.

I would suggest drop some of the cavalry in both and get some archers. Archers are good.Trust me.

The red has been done with the Foundation paints red, red gore and then blood red but i will try your suggestion.

For your red, you will likely get a nicer, cleaner red if you skip the red gore stage of your painting and go from mechrite to blood red.

Metal was painted Tin Bitz first, boltgun metal on top of that. Then a black ink wash (black ink not a wash) followed by a highlight of mithril silver. Finaly one very waterd down wash of black. Weapons where painted just straight chainmail.
