I dunno...

Well, now my WHFB Orcs are nearing completion, I need another project to start! I was thinking of another 40K army, after a while I came up with either Necrons or Orks, now I already have some Orks (thank you AoBR) but I like Necrons a bit more, I sum it up like this
Orks
Pros: Already have a good starting point and colour scheme
Cons: A bit of a cliché concept, practically EVERYONE plays Orks

Necrons
Pros: Good (if limited) models, good paint scheme, strong tabletop force
Cons: Would have to start from scratch

I do have a few Ork models painted in my colour scheme, but I decided to show you using the DOW army painter, for two reasons
1) I only have a webcam which would not do the mini justice
2) I do not have a painted Necron ATM

so here are the pics

I apologise that they dont work correctly

You answered your own question. If you like Necrons more, go with them.

The only thing I'd be leery about with Necrons is they are slated for a new release soon. You may be spending alot of time building an army that is probably going to change a bit. That being said, if you like them go for it, just pay attention to new about them and paint up the basic troopers first. (It seem like most changes are going to be in the HQ, elites, and perhaps heavies from the rumors I've read)

Hope this helps!

id say crons, theres gonna be too many ork armies otherwise, coz of AOBR, not that its a bad thing just it would be nice to have something different

Definitely the Necrons, that colour scheme looks like it could come out brilliantly.
I agree with nidsmaster, there are just too many ork armies.

There can never be too many Ork armies! If anything there are too many Ultramarines armies...now thats a waste!!

I think you should go themed with your orks, either speed freak or dread mob or stompa crew.

I think it depends a little on how much you want to customize your force. Orks have a lot of room for conversions and personalization. Necrons do not.

That would keep me from playing necrons, but it is the appeal to some. Necrons do not have names very often, all of the minis paint the same way (there is a lot more variation even among non-converted orks).

Does that help you decide any?

Go with the necrons, I've been seeing too many ork armies lately. It will be nice to see some nec's on here.

Unless you're sick of painting greenskins, Orks would be more practical modellingwise - you probably already have a bits box full of Orc bits, many of which are good for Orks as well

You do realize how long you will have to wait until Necrons get an update? Earliest I can see them coming is late 2009 or early 2010.

yeah you stand your ground pancake, and even if you have to wait, it just means you'll have time to save alot more money, so you would be able to do whatever you want!!

Hoorah! Support! A possibility that presents itself is to make a caombat patrol with the current codex maybe to get used to it, I think that whenever an army gets an update, my local GW trade your outdated codex for the new one, I think they do

You could hammer out 40 warriors in an afternoon if you are really feeling the urge for a new project. A good friend of mine has a very nicely painted Necron army that was almost entirely painted while still attached to the sprue.

That being said, I'll still give you a 0 if you bring more than 5 eldar skimmers. Don't be that guy.
Also, strippers.
