i must be missing somehting hear. as i read through the rule book, i realise how useless link firing is.

say i have 2 dwarf crusiers in full broadside range 1. i can link them and get 10 attack dice (base of 7 + 3 for 1/2 rounded down for the other) or.... i can NOT link them and get 14 for firing both broadsides at the same ship....

i cant think of a situation where linking is a good idea. am i not reading this right? or is this as useless as i think it is?

What about if only one ship is in range 1?

well the rules for linking say you get the full shots from one ship. then half shots (rounding down) from the other(s). so i would take the one ship in band one as my main ship to get the 7 shots, then whatever half of the other ships shots would be.

i think i might have it now. if i fire one crusier then i get the 7 shots, if i fail to do dammage then i move on to the next ship and fire. the shots do not add up. BUT if i link them i can get 10 shots, increasing my chances of hurting the target ship.

IE. i have ship 1 and 2 with 7 shots each. i am fring at a ship that has 5 points damage rating.

ship 1 fires its 7 shots. i fail to meet the damage rating. no damage delt.
ship 2 fires its 7 shots. i fail to meet the damage rating. no damage delt.

now lets say ship 1 fires, and ship 2 "link fires" with it. i now have 10 dice to roll. Increaseing my chances of dealing a point of damage to that ship.

at least, that is how i think it works.

That's correct you are rolling more dice at a single target raising your chances of exceeding the ships damage rating.

Took me a little time to understand that
