i will be moving to atlanta in a few weeks, and i am hoping to find the best place in the area for gaming. i am going to be living in flowery branch, but i am welcome to a decent drive if the gaming is up to par. i've done my homework, but i couldn't really find anything saying yes we play games... yes we are the best in the area... yes we have updated this information after the year 2005.

any help?

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

Mall of georgia in buford has a games workshop. There is a lot of people there usually, and game boards.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

hi Phiasco. Asking for the best in the area will always vary depending on who you ask :p

There are quite a few places to play in Atlanta (not necessarily a good thing, imo, as it dilutes each place, but that's another discussion!)
- Mall of Georgia
- Phoenix Games (http://www.phoenixgames-atl.com)
- Gaming Pit (Warfan - http://www.warfan.net)
- Tower Games (NATO - http://www.tabletop-wargames.org)
- Gigabites (see above)
- Hobbytown Kennesaw

I personally play at the Gaming Pit in Lawrenceville GA, we're predominantly 40k and Fantasy - though I'd have to say we're more 40k. We play on Wednesday nights from ~6:30-11p, can always find a game then. Any other day you'd have to schedule something on the boards [if you register, make sure to post your username in the Login section to get activated].

NATO plays at Tower Games on Thursdays (also in Lawrenceville). I haven't been there in a while, but they normally have pretty good attendance. They play a wide variety of games (40k, Fantasy, FoW, Warmachine).

I've been to the MoG a few times, though mostly on the weekends as it closes too early for me to get there and play on a weekday. Not many tables, very random to find a game.

Phoenix Games is somewhere close to the MoG. I hear it is pretty spacious, but same issue as MoG - tough for me to get there in time with traffic during the week (since I'd be heading out of Atlanta during rush hour) to play a game before closing.

Giga-bites is in Marietta, also plays on Wednesdays, unfortunately - so I haven't been there and can't speak to its gaming.

And then Hobbytown, in Kennesaw, GA. It's a big store, but only the back room is set up for Warhammer 40k / Fantasy. At a tournament of theres, they mentioned they play on Sundays. A friend and I went there the next Sunday and ended up playing each other cause only 2 other people were there playing each other. Eh, maybe they changed days or it was a fluke, don't know.

I'm another Gaming Pit/Warfan type, but I also go to Tower on Thursdays and I've been to Giga-Bytes. They have a good crowd on Saturdays, primarily 40k.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Haven't played at treefort, though a few went to the Inepticon RTT. Something where there are prizes for the worst general and all. They brought silly lists and had a good time there, but I don't know anyone who has played there on a regular basis.

I won't be at their 3k 40k RTT on the 21st since it's the same day as the Battle for Stones River in Murfreesboro, TN.. but several of us from the Pit will be at their 3,500 pt Fantasy RTT the next week.

I hear Phoenix Games has a pretty good Friday night turnout. Post up when you are thinking about going and I can make it some weeks depending on work and conditions.

Good info, I just moved here as well and am getting into 40k. I don't mind driving out to any of these locations, but like someone mentioned, it'll be an issue fighting traffic (pretty impressive down here...). Is there anywhere IN Atlanta people play, or only in these surrounding cities/neighborhoods?

I don't know of any within Atlanta proper, sorry.

Also, 6 is fairly typical for a Wednesday night at the Pitt (folks have been busy the last few months). It's towards the low end, but not a surprise.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Another place to try is Hobby Hangout http://hobbyhangoutonline.com/ in Douglasville. It's not to bad of a drive from inside the perimeter. I'm usually there on Thursdays and every other Saturday. Turnout lately has been hit or miss but there are a bunch of good guys that play both 40K and Fantasy.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

@sexiest hero:

probably treefort games in fayetteville is the closest to you. it's a great store but it's only open on the weekends (friday afternoon to sunday). for a midweek 40k fix, you can get a fix at heroes comics in Newnan (exit 47, a 20 minute drive down I-85) on wednesdays. PM me if you need directions to the later as they don't have a website with them like treefort does.
