I've aquired a job lot of CSM from a well know auction website and it is mainly HQ and Troop choices. I'm now looking to expand to fill Fast Attack, Elite and Heavy Support slots. To begin with I've just bought a box of Terminators, a box of Havocs and a box of Raptors.
I'm after people's opinions on the best configuration of each squad using just what comes in the box set......
If it helps or influences your decision, the rest of the army consists of:
Abaddon
Plague Marines
Thousand Sons with Aspiring Sorcerer
Khorne Berserkers
Chaos Space Marine (approx 25 in total which include a lascannon and 3 champions with plasma pistol and power weapon)
I also have a Chaos Predator with TL Lascannon and Side Sponson Lascannon, a CC Dreadnought, a Rhino and a Land Raider left over from my Templars that I am in the process of converting....

Not taking vehicles to foil anti-tank weapons is like not wearing body armour to foil armour piercing weapons, or starving yourself to foil somebody trying to poison you.
Your army is too slow and has too little firepower. It will spend the game trying to walk to the enemy while getting shot to pieces. You either need to get some transports so that you can get to the enemy faster or get some ranged weapons so you can shoot people.
Appart from that your list isnt actually leagally playable. The sorcerer in your 1Ksons squad MUST have a psykic power and a CSM squad must be 10 models strong before you can take a heavy weapon.
If you have the model for abbadon then why not just use abbadon? Hes far far better than your lord (who shouldnt have a lightning claw and a power weapon btw as there is no benefit for having both).
Champions with plasma pistols stand a high chance of killing themselves with their own weapons, so they shouldnt have them.
This isnt a good list.

The actual question (and the point of the thread) was to canvas opinion on what configuration of terminaors, havocs and raptors people thought best using only what is contained within the box....
I accept your comments however the list that I posted is as I bought it, not how I'll use it...
In light of this confusion I'll edit the original post and possibly repost the list I'll be using at a future date...

Oh i see. I apologise for misunderstanding.
The boxes for terminators havocs and raptors arent particularly good and will probably require a fair bit of conversion to get what you want.
For terminators give you the most options (being a recent plastic kit). What you want to give them really depends on what role you want them to play in your army. If you want to DS them or put them in a transport i would go with 2 PFs, a Heavy Flamer and as many combi-flamer(or meltas if you want to convert) you can out on them. If you want them to footslog go for combi-plasmas and a RAC. If you want them to have an icon you will need to convert one for them (not too hard).
For raptors I would go for a melta (as thats what you get in the box and its the best special weapon to give them anyway) and a champion with either a powerfist or lightning claws. Again if you want an icon you will have to convert. With raptors i think its worth getting at least two boxes so you have two meltas and enough bodies to spread the cost of the icon around.
I dont think its worth buying a box set of havocs. The weapons you are given are quite have too wide a range of uses to make them good in a single squad. Lascannon and MLs are anti-tank and HBs and autocannon are anti-infantry. I would buy the weapons you want individually and build a havoc squad like that. If you have already bought the box set then the best plan is to buy another, then you can have an anti-tank squad with the MLs and lascannon and a anti-infantry squad with the HBs and autocannon.

I agree with the Raptors, except you need to think about what you want to do with them. If you're gonna use them as mobile-tank hunters, give them meltas and keep them at about ten men for the squad. If you're gonna do close combat, the Icon of Slaanesh and lightning claws and you'll want 12+ models.

I have 6 (because I bought the box and 1 was on white dwarf) termi champs with 1 power fist reaper or heavy flamer (modelled both so up to me) led by Termi lord with MoTzeentch daemon wep and termi armour or abbaddon. I am aiming to get 10 termis with reaper and Heavy flamer 2 Lightning claws and 2 power fists With icon of tzeentch and led by abbaddon and lord as before expensive but not as much as the ultimate ork nob bikerz of doom and loadsa people take them

Automated Rubric Marine of Tzeentch
|
Chaos Terminators with Lightning Claws + Mark of Slaanesh = Marine killers. 3 attacks each with I5 power weapons that reroll wounds! Of course they're Terminators and thus expensive, but they can definitely be very useful in that field to destroy troops. Sadly getting the lightning claws is a task (having said that, I'll take pictures of mine when they're done... e-peen +1 ).
I also agree with the Raptors. 10 man squad with 2 Meltas is good. Flamers are still underrated though. Things that automatically hit are a bonus, and they're what, 5 points?

Twisting Tzeentch Horror

My raptors tend to run 2 flamers and and icon of chaos glory, with a lightning claw champion and meltabombs. Was running powerfist, but I'm dubious of it's worth now.
My devastators are usually 8-man squads, with 4 of the same heavy weapons. I use missile launchers, autocannons, and heavy bolters. Occasionally, if I have the points, I'll put in a icon of chaos glory.
My terminators tend to be one of two things. My shooty terminators are usually in squads of 3 or 4, with combi-weapons (either plasma or melta). Occasionally I run 5, 4 combi-plasma and 1 heavy flamer. I rarely if ever use the reaper. Otherwise, they're close-combat termies with lightning claws, though I usually stick a heavy flamer and chainfist in the squad too. They go in a land raider for mobility. Here I'll either take an Icon of Khorne or leave them blank for points.
