Hey all
I am making an Iyanden army that is based on extremely elaborate junk bases, which are going to be very rusty. The wraithlords also have huge banners, so I am looking for things to put on them. I am thinking of making it Fallout themed in color and a bit in imagery.
Does anyone know what the sliding thingamajig is at the beginning of the game? I am sure it is some vacuum tube whatsit, but I would like to figure it out so I can find more images like that. I am mainly interested in those colors.
Also, I would like to base it around original 50s style artwork, the stuff the Fallout imagery is based around, rather than fallout itself, I just don't know much about it other than, of course, the game. I have been doing a lot of image searching, but half of what I find are images of four goofy looking guys in some crappy band
Here are a few things:
Possible banner material but a bit plain.
I like this sort of decayed look, and the colors.
Of course some of the really obvious stuff, but it shows th damaged, dreamlike look.
Just thought this was cool.
I am so sick of these people....
If anyone has any existing images or wants to contribute I would appreciate it!
EDIT:
adding more:
I like the explosion on the background.
Im really torn. I also want to do an army based on this sort of stuff and it would fit Eldar well.

This is a bit more Eldar, but its a one off from an obscure artist:

Love the idea of old rusted walkers in a wasteland ruined setting but i gotta say im not so sure about the banners. I'm having trouble imagineing 50's style art on eldar anything. I just see it being kind of contradictory in that you'll have ruined out bases with junky walkers with nice banners. I would love to see burned and tattered banner scraps trailing off the models.
Just my two cents.

Yeah, that is true, but at the same time it is Eldar so they have sort of a "magical prettiness" about them. Its like the high elves, their stuff is always perfect no matter where they are.
But I am not going for perfect, they will be dirty, I am trying to wrangle in the style I want before I figure out the how.

Hey mate, I'd be glad to help if i can find any references.
I'm a fan of fallout myself, and I'm looking (in someway) to put some references into my new guardsmen. How, I don't know.

We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

Guard would be great, and would be my original choice if I had to pick an army to fit this style, but this is for Adepticon, so it needs to be low model and competitive, and I already have the models too

If thats the case i really think you could do some creative stuff in the style of that first banner with the house. Just emulate the colors and shapes, replace the house with an Eldar looking webgate and viola, instant Eldar deco haha.

I think the worn-down clean and sense of humor in Fallout would be perfect for an IG planet! You'd just be substituting religious paranoia for rabid patriotic paranoia. You could even make up a similar flag to the U.S. (almost psuedo American) maybe a confederate style and your Commisars could look like Joe McCarthy. Grab some Space Marines and alter them slightly to match the BoS and you have the local SM Chapter. Just some thoughts!
As far as Eldar... I dunno either. Seems a bit odd. Maybe customize the vehicles and helmets to have a style more reminiscent of 50's cars and such might be one way. (Change the Eldar helmets to look like the Rocketeer)

Well you also have to remember this is Iyanden. Its 20 Wraithguard and 3 wraithlords. I consider, especially if they were painted right, the heads to be "fifties futuristic" in terms of sleekness and shape.
But if there were living Eldar like Avengers or something then no I wouldnt be doing this.

I've thought about that actually with Tau, but that is alot of modding involved. Your talking about different structure and everything when going with Eldar. Though I think it would be funny seeing SPs with the Power Armor helmet out of Fallout, then giving them all fatman.
EDIT: ACTUALLY!!! This is from the new Fallout DLC... it might work for armor.

Hope these help!

add lots of grilles to the helmets and make all the jewels perfectly round. Add grease and grime and rust. Thin lines or trim and such are a reoccurring 50's theme. Also add "fins" to the fore arms and heads. also lots of unnecessary bolts and rivets would look good.

And?
Shouldnt let your ideas about an army limit your painting, they are all just plastic and metal in the end.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I'm not sure what colors Iyanden uses but you gotta go with the pale blues, yellows, greens. Spring pallette, almost pastels but not quite. I'm sure you could find a 50's palette on the web. Just a thought.

I think you should do Storm Troopers themed like the Brotherhood of Steel, and I too am really sick of Fall Out Boy, they can rot.

I support this idea 1000%!
Even better do a google search on commando Cody "sky mashal of the universe". The rocketter is more mid/ late 40's (it has Nazis). Whereas commando cody is from the mid 60's (start of cold war and Nazis). Huge emphasis on space ships and great stories. Plus he looks more eldar with his pointy "shell head" helmet that the round sleek rocketter.
Also lookup communist propoganda it's great stuff, I do slot of artwork that's based off of their style of imagery.
Hope that gives you some ideas I know it's not 50's but it is still cold war era

Commando Cody first ran in 1952 (2 years after King of the Rocketmen). The Rocketeer's style was based heavily from Commando Cody and King of the Rocketmen. The height of Cold War paranoia (often associated with McArthyism) was the mid 1950's which is the era Fallout was trapped in, stylistically and philosophically. I know Rocketeer took place in the 40's but I chose it because, well, see for yourself...

Holly carp you posted a pic of Cody so I don't have to (can't do image posts wif iPhone) I meant to get to it last night but watched earth vs. The flying saucers instead.
I digress, thanks for the accurate dates I was running of of memory so I was also planning on more specific (and correct) dates. Also Cody basically has a distinct eldar look even though it's basically a tin can. An army in black and white would also be pretty sweet come to think of it.
