Real quick question I need clarified:

1) Can IG take Grey Knight troops with a Landraider as a transport for them?


My friend says they can because it talks about Landraiders in the transport section and that any unit can take one of those transports as an upgrade. That whole codex is worded so dumb that neither of us can really come to a conclusion.

Ask your friend to look at the Grey Knights army list entry and show you the unit's transport options.

I did and its really ambiguous. There is just a transport section in general in which it says units can take these vehicles as upgrades. I'm looking for someone who plays IG or Deamonhunters who knows the answer. I have searched all over the place on the internetz and there are mixed answers everywhere.

What's ambiguous? Does the Grey Knights army list entry have a transport option listed there or not? The transport section only tells you that they can be taken as transports by some units. The unit entries themselves tell you if they can or not.

K, Here is the ambiguous part: Everywhere I read on forums and the internet people are saying that Grey Knights don't have any dedicated transports unless its an inquisitor (because its part of his retinue). This means that the Landraider is Heavy Support and IG don't get any Heavy Support from GK allies. The problem is that under the transport section (not listed as Troops or Heavy Support or anything for that matter) it says a unit can take a transport as an "upgrade". So does this mean allied GK can take a Landraider in an IG list? I don't have the codex in front of me, I'll get quotes from it when I can, I just figured someone would know the answer.

it says a unit can take a transport as an "upgrade" ... yes and that unit it is an Inquisitor lord and retinue no other unit has the option to take one ... If you really want one why not take a daemon hunters army with Inducted IG pg 30-31

So what? Does it say that each and every unit in the codex can take a transport as an upgrade? No. So how do you know which units can take a transport as an upgrade? Simple. Their army list entry tells you if they can and what transports they may take,

if a unit has a transport listed in thier description then yes, if not, no.

OK, ObiFett, take a look at the Inquisitor entry.
See that little bit there about Transport, lists what he can take as a transport, etc? Got it? OK, now look at the entry for Grey Knights, the actual Troop unit listing. Is there anything similar to the Transport entry in the Inq listing contained in the GK listing? No, there is not. Soooo, think it through. Why does one unit have a listing saying it can have these vehicles as a transport and another unit has no such listing. Could it be because the unit without the listing cannot have a transport?

K, a little "smart-alec-y" but I get the point and I completely agree. My friend (who I think is just trying to find a way to shove landraiders into his IG army) read the paragraph above the transport listing that says something to the effect of "Any unit may take a transport listed below as an upgrade" and says that means his GK troops can take a Landraider as a transport and since that particular vehicle isn't listed under the Heavy support section it doesn't count as Heavy Support.

Except if you were to actually read that passage you would see that is not what it says.

Well, sucks to know that either my friend:

1) Understands the paragraph but is trying to pull one over on me OR
2) Doesn't understand his own friggin codex and now makes me wonder on all the other stuff he is doing.
