OK, most people know the Vulkan/Sister's controversy.

Here is another one.

A Black Templars army takes the vow Uphold the Honour of the Emperor.

Reading this rule it never says it only applies to Black Templars. The first line says No unit may benefit from cover for saving throws.

So, does this vow also cover any allies taken?

So my codex black templars says:

"Keine einheit der Black templars profitiert von Deckungswürfen."

Nice difference.

See the BT codex, page 23, bottom left. It states that the Emperor's Champion leads his brethren in prayer and further states that the Black Templars must choose one of the vows. It does not imply that the whole army gets the vow.

Contrast that with page 93 of the SM codex. It clearly states that the stated weapons in the whole army have the benefits.

I think it comes down to WH40k being a permissive rule set. If it does not specify that non-BT allies get it, then they don't.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.
