OK, I've spent WAY too much time clicking on images for the gallery so I think I've earned this.

WHY IN GAWD'S NAME ARE PEOPLE POSTING PICTURES OF UNPAINTED, UNCONVERTED BLACK REACH MODELS?

WHY ARE PEOPLE POSTING BLURRY PICTURES?

WHY ARE PEOPLE POSTING CROOKED PHOTOS?

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE ADD THEIR OWN DAMN TAGS? IT PROMPTS YOU FOR THEM WHEN YOU UPLOAD!

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Oh and also when photographing battle reports, please crop out the people, the dice, the coke cans and the other stuff that ruins the illusion. I mean if you have painted models and terrain why ruin it all with a damn coke can or pile of d6?

Every time someone posts a picture to Dakka, it also gets put into the gallery. As mods, we approve or deny the actual gallery acceptance, but we tend to simply allow anything that's a model. We also deny some stuff that's just not gallery appropriate.

What this means is that people aren't necessarily trying to put pics on the Gallery when they post to Painting and Modeling. It just happens.

I know, I know, but still, so annoying. I mean the rotation thing, that's just basic.

Regarding tags:

When you upload images by attaching them, they're not automatically
tagged. The description doesn't seem to count as tags.

Can we have a gallery day then? When we all spend an hour blitzing the gallery- tagging things, voting and generally getting stuff done?

The bonus to that is if a load of us do that- they non-awesome-gallery stuff will get buried in low votes and the cool stuff will float to the top like some weird golddust!

I might do that tommorow when I get back from work actually

Hey I like seeing photos of the people in battle reports, it gives me a more positive self image

The voting and tagging is coming along well and there are more votes coming in than there are new images which is the balance we need. The crappier images will get filtered out soon enough, and once we get the total number of votes up high enough, I'll be changing the randomisation algorithm so that 3/4s of all images you see will be high quality (high rated) images that you have not seen or voted on before. Should make things a lot more entertaining anyway.

I'm thinking change it to anything with 1+ votes for now and leave all the zero vote junk out. If someone doesn't take the time to vote on their own gallery image then why should I?

When one of the fore mentioned photos comes up I just hit Na/Na.... Though I might be guilty of doing some of them.... LoL I enjoy voting in the gallery.

Well, bandwidth-wise I'd recommend that people do that on different days. ;-)

I've just hit up the gallery today for a few hours.
Did some tagging some comments and some voting.
The most fun bit is getting the 5th vote then seeing the results!!!
It's also kinda fun filtering out the cr#p.
