I've seen a few brief mentions of this, but I thought I'd share this:

To begin with: One basically painted Skaven. Elf Flesh Skin, Verimin Brown fur, Bestial Brown leather.



The trick: Tamiya Smoke. The mainstream use of this is through an airbrush for exhaust and gun stains; as in this example, before GW destroyed my previous modeling hobby:



The Result: The aftermath of smoke. Being an arcrylic paint, it's no thicker than another coat of paint. These photos don't really do it justice.







If you have a gajillion skeletons to complete, it's really easy. I used Bleached Bone to start with. My brothers use a panzer interior color, which IIRC is a bit lighter.

Im embarrased to say this but, when smoked skaven was mentioned i sort of started salivating .

The red on the skaven also looked like meat jerky.

thats a great idea, and you're right, it would make skellies tons faster

I thought it was a misfire conversion or warpfire thrower on turn two model. Shame. Good tip though, I use a lot of washes for Skaven a Black one and a Vermin Fur one for the skin. Washes are your friend

To be honest, the effects on bone are really the best. I was experimenting on the rats, since I am in the process of building a ton of them. Anything to help the process along is nice.

Smoke really seeps into all the cracks and recesses.

Zad Fnark I know what you mean about destroying a hobby I must have about 30 unbuilt kits in my basement from cars to aircraft. Bye the way is that airplane a P36?

I thought is was some sort of new fangled drug euphemism.

Nope, a Brewster F2A-2 Buffalo. I've painted it up like one of the ones at Midway, but they actually were -3's. Artistic license.

I've got well over 50 kits in the stash. Almost all 1/48 WWII aircraft.

I also have an R/C Val dive bomber on the building block. I haven't touched that in a while. I think it's around 1/9 scale.
