Just wondering how are mortars in the Mortar Hvy weapon squads and in normal squad of 10.

Do people ever take them? any effective ways to use them ?

Point wise, they're a little heavy, but if you're a lucky roller, they can be devestating, especially against hordes.

They're pretty much a flavor item, kind of a 'why not' choice.

Barrage weapons IMO are a ton of fun if its a friendly game, with crap landing everywhere, its kind of hilarious.

if a mortar could ignore area terrain instead of just intervening terrain, or were higher strength, they'd be good. As it stands, the heavy bolters generally get you much farther. The only saving grace of mortars is being able to stash them waaay in the back of your gunline and still rain cover-free death on the enemies running at you.

also, if it were possible for anyone to fail a pinning test, ever, they'd be not bad.

Iuse them in my IG gun line. Give my command squad something to do while they hide.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

I use them in my Drop IG army. Never in standard squads though, only as Mortar squads assigned to my HQ.

I know that alone it will not amount to anything but at least i can shoot while standing back and providing Ld

I think thats a good point. Any Command squads kept back (to provide Leadership) and out of sight (to provide protection) might as well have a Mortar.
