After another long hiatus, I decided to throw my hat back in the ring and start playing 40K again. I decided that I would redo my old Deathwing army because out of all the armies I have done it is the one I had the most fun converting, painting, and playing.

It is just cool watching the elite of the elite tackle 3 to 4 times their number and coming out on top (at least on rare occasions). The low model count allows me to also paint at my slow but leisurely pace while still having a completed army before the next edition of 40K comes out.

Conversions:
The one thing I loved about my old Deathwing is the cloak conversions I did on the chaplain’s command squad. With the new Deathwing army I decided to have all the terminators dressed in cloaks, as they just seem to fit with character of the Dark Angels.

I also remembered reading somewhere that upon admission to the Deathwing, Dark Angels are given a dagger to symbolize their Deathwing status (You can see this dagger on the old Deathwing minis). I added this dagger in addition to some odds and ends.

So, with some reworking of the original list, and some big purchases over the holidays from the Warstore and Forgeworld (shoulder pads, Land Raider doors, and a venerable dred), I had all I needed to complete redux deathwing army.

The lists consisted of:
Belial
4 squads of terminators
Venerable Dread
2 Land raiders
1 Land raider crusader

I also plan to convert another squad of terminators with an apothecary in case I want to trade out one of the Land Raiders.

Painting- Battle damage or Squeaky clean?

I have decided that I will stick with NMM with this army as I did with the old deathwing. I have not decided whether I should paint them nice and clean like I did before, or add some battle damage and weathering.

What do you think?

That looks like it was one of the most beautiful armies I've seen. I cannot choose between whether you should weather or keep it clean. But I'm sure it will look fantastic either way.

Wow, gaalsien! I remember your Deathwing army from when you first built it - I'm excited to see you working on them again! I look forward to what you decide to do with them now.

Hey Fabio,

Welcome back! Long time, no hear...

I like the new Deathwing. Very nice!

Now, what ever happened to the Noise Marines you were working on? I fully expected them to show up at some GT and sweep a Player's Choice and Best Painted!

Generally I'd say dirty them up, because a lot of marine armies suffer from really boring clean looks. However, your conversion and painting skills keep them looking so amazing and colorful that I'd say you don't need to change a thing.

Great stuff! Your sculpting skills and attention to detail on each model are exceptional.

Battle damage vs. squeaky... that's a really tough call. I feel like the artificers and tech-marines that take care of the Deathwing must work over-over-time keeping their armor in tip-top shape. Since the Deathwing only appear in force when the battle is most dire, I can't imagine them slogging from one fight to the next without being tended to.
So, it really depends on the story you want to tell. Are they just appearing on the battle-field, fresh from the armorers? Or did they just fight off a hated foe, worse for the wear yet ready to take on whatever challenge presents itself?

Ultimately, whatever you choose, I can't wait to see how your models turn out.

Really like it,I think there armour should remain clean as they are the elite of the elite so I do think that they would keep there armour in tip-top condition.More I want more!!!

I love those custom terminators. The robes look perfect.

Together with the vehicles, dreads and the display this is an awesome army.

I concur with everyone elses statements. Nuts good conversions!

Where did you get the chain from? Is it just Jewellers chain from a Jewellery shop?
Or chain from a train/hobby shop?

Very nice indeed

Quick Q... Is the base a display stand for your Deathwing, or part of your game table terrain?

Either way, that looks cool also, well done all round

London (work) / Pompey (live, from time to time)

they look amazing, havent seen anything like this before.
it has alot of character, and the details are great!
the painting just makes them even better as its spot on, crisp and clean.

2 things though

1: any chance of a tutorial on making those robes?
2: any chance of seeing the new(est) termie chappy in there?

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.
