FFG has posted Knowledge Is Power on their website, a .pdf that's both a short story and a description of the six upcoming Dark Heresy books for 2009.

Nice, we're especially looking forward to the Ascension book, though we might need to get our characters ready for such a feat first.

I know the ones by Black Industries are, I am as of yet a little sceptical about the ones by FFG.

The Ascension book does sound good, advancing everyone from lowly servants of an Inquisitor to the type of people that would make up his retinue.

Is there actually a book yet that has guidelines on how to make actual Space Marines?

I thought that was in the works.

As detailed as the game is? You can start with a basic acolyte, and by the time you're through, you will have a Space Marine.
The first book touches on them.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Not at the moment, I believe a Deathwatch book is on the plans from what they were saying at Games Day.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I never quite understood that. You get a system tailored towards small party interaction and combat and people always ask for space marines, the most overpowering option for such games..

This is just like Inquisitor really. Certain character types are just too powerful for these sort of things, unless the GM writes a special scenario for it.

Yes, there is appeal to being a castrated uber-mensch who can kill people by just sneezing. But you'd need to hunt stealers or fight super hereteks to make it exciting enough for marines.

Sorry to go off topic, but how is 4th Edition?

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.

Depends how it's done really.

When I first heard about it the idea was that Dark Heresy was the first 40K RPG game, as in complete game, where the players played as low-level Inquisitorial agents. The next complete game was to be about Rogue Traders. Same basic core rules, just a different set of character archetypes and so on. The third game with, again, the exact same ruleset just a new set of options, was to be a Deathwatch book. So in the Deathwatch game the abilities of your party and your opponents would have some level of parity, and it wouldn't be a Priest, a Tech-Priest and an Arbite teaming up with a Marine who clearly overshadows them.

Whether we'll see that now is anyone's guess, but I was really looking forward to a Deathwatch game.

The marrow of a psyker's bone cooked off and everybody had to pick bone fragments from their flesh, those critical charts are quite unforgiving. If amusing.

When put like that, as a separate entity where only marines work alongside one another, it would most certainly work. Plus it would be tailored towards them, making it challenging and whatnot for them.

But with the current materials at hand, which are aimed at regular human operatives, the marine would be grossly out of place. Just like most of Inquisitor really, ah yes those golden days of brother F-U with his storm bolter and Frost blade leading a bunch of retinue members on a stealth mission through the crowded streets of Epsilon Prime.

Well, being the guy allways stuck being the GM the Creatures Anathema looks the most intresting to me. There are some nice fan created stuff out there, but alot of it is just junk.

Ascension looks good. I have been hoping they would implement some sort of WHFP career system into the game and from what I have heard this is it. My biggest complaint of the whole system is no dabbling..Once your one class your locked in its teirs of progression.

According to the D6 Generation interview, Dark Heresy the Game is only for Inquisitor acolytes and stuff. There will be another Game (with basically the same rules) for Rogue Traders and another Game for Marines.

Its really funny cause I just picked up the rulebook for DH like last week. And now I read about this. Its sad that I have no one to play with around here. If I even get a group going then maybe just maybe I can justify the purchase of these. (Though if not I will probably buy them anyway)

I've got a really popular campaign running, so as far as some of my immediate friends its a success.

We like the "Miniature Wargaming" turn that d&d has taken.

Sounds sweet.

BrookM wrote:The marrow of a psyker's bone cooked off and everybody had to pick bone fragments from their flesh, those critical charts are quite unforgiving. If amusing.

... did the psyker survive that?

Now back OT:

There is a space marine (a deathwatch marine no less) in the second adventure of the "Purge the Unclean" book. If you want to make SM characters, it shouldn't be hard. The only problem, in my mind, is what the heck are they going to fight that will actually challenge them? I don't see the demons from the core book or the dark eldar from Purge the Unclean challenging marines at all.

Definitely looking forward to all 6 books. The Radicals Handbook sounds very .... interesting.

So far I have all the books out for DH. My only complaint is the large amount of typos/errors in the Black Library versions of the core book and the inquisitor's handbook. The errata fixes most of the problems, but the typos, particularly the typos for the sister of battle career are annoying.

On the bright side, I haven't found anything similar in the new Disciples of the Dark Gods. Which is totally awesome, by the way.

Just wanted to clarify that it wasn't like 3 books, one right after the other but 3 game systems with lots of books. If that's what you meant, then good.

FFG will most likely unveil Rogue Trader soon, seeing as it can already be found in their games list when you edit your profile.

Creatures Anathema will be the first one all done by FFG (ie a title not already in work from Black Industries before they went away), so it will be interesting to see how the vets like it. I think it came out pretty well and you'll be seeing lots of old-time favorite critters in it. It should be in stores shortly.

And keep an eye on the FFG site for an announcement of interest soon too...
