Hi everyone!

This is the start of my new project, an army of the Dark Mechanicus. Quite unusually I'm using Eldar rules for these (I love the idea of tech-priests sending bursts of programming code (exarch powers, psychic powers) into their soldiers, making them better at fighting or more resiliant and so on.) So here are my first five models, 4 Dark Skitarii (Dire Avengers) led by a Heretek (Exarch) with twin Death Arc Blasters (Avenger Shuriken Catapults) and using the Weapon Overload Program (Bladestorm):

C&C welcome as always!

/Martin

very cool models. I could see myself getting confused a lot because they look like marines or guard, but they're using the rules for eldar!

What are your plans for vehicles?

Luckily I only play against my friends, so the confusing part shouldn't be a problem.

For War Walkers I will build a type of Heavy Servitors (using Ogre-upper bodies with mechanical legs), as for heavier vehicles, I'm a bit stumped. Perhaps som daemonically possessed construct for a Wraithlord? Any ideas?

The Heretek is made from a Imperial Guard Enginseer with additional parts from some Necrons and the hand from an Eversor Assassin. The Skitarii uses the bodies of the Iron Brotherhood from Micro Art Studios ( http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/index.php ) with some additional Necron parts and guitar-wire.

Yeah, those are all very nice. Using those Iron Brotherhood as Adeptus Mechanicus is great.

What is up with the Heretek's eyes in the last photo though? Did you Photoshop that, or is the picture just pixelated?

They're so twisted and fiendish, but still so stylish and cool.

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

Up your nose with a rubber hose.

I dunno. I guess they're sort of... kickass in a totally awesome sort of way.

This is neither here nor there, but I will say that when it comes to creepy mechano-cultists and their cyber-zombie pets, I prefer the skin to look pallid if not downright necrotic, cuz who has time for a healthy diet when there's baleful experiments to be performed and sinister code to be written? Having your Personal Nutrient Replicator synthesize Cheese Puff and Mountain Dew solution and pump it directly into your body can't be good for the skin.

maybe some small variations of knight titans for larger vehicles?

Wow. That's pretty cool.
The Eldar approach intrigues me, so now you have a 5 man squad of Dire Avengers, what else have you planed for troops?

Not sure what happened to the eyes there, guess the auto-contrast and the pixelated image just messed them up. They don't stand out as much in reality.

Smaller knight titans is a really good idea! My only problem (that I've actually put myself into) is the fact that almost all Eldar vehicles are skimmers. I'm a bit drawn towards the Fire Prism, 'cause I think a really big cannon suits the Dark Mechanicus perfectly, and a really big cannon that can combine its power with another big cannon is even more perfect.

We still play Combat Patrols around here, so my first step is a 400-points army. Will include another 5 Dire Avengers (waiting for the models from Micro Arts), 2 Hunter Servitors (War Walkers) and then either 8 Tech Priest Assassins/Howling Banshees (inspired by Remiare from the Kaban Project / Mechanicum) or 5 Warp Spiders (perhaps some kind of heavier troops using warp-teleportation, kind of like Tech Priest Tesla from =Inquisitor=.)

For eventual further troops I'm not sure, you can always have more Dark Skitarii I guess. Also, in Dark Adeptus there are a lot of anti-grav platforms flying around, which might inspire som stand-ins for jetbikes. A more hunched, slave-like servitor-type could also stand in for Storm Guardians. The potentials are endless really.

Every time someone shows me an AM/Dark AM army, I get this image in my head of some kind of platform that functions like a skimmer, but instead of hovering is supported by almost a sea of mechanical tentacles hanging down like a thousand legs. So it's technically a walker, but it can reposition its tentacles in so many different ways that it can easily step over any obstacle and is effectively a skimmer. I imagine a sea of Skitarii marching methodically forward with this metallic Cthulean thing rising behind them in silhouette with a tech priest standing on the back, wordlessly ordering his minions forward.

I don't know if that helps you or not, but it's one idea.

i know this is far fetched, but you like the prism and it needs to be a skimmer?

how about a small knight titan with some form of jump pack?
thrusters even, just something it can use to show it is able to move over terrain.

That's some great imagery! Thanks a lot, will definately keep this idea in mind. Might be perfect for a Wave Serpent, I can imagine the hovering/tentacled machine suddenly opening up like a flower, spilling out a horde of mindless machine-warriors.

If you're having trouble with people remembering what models represent what, you might put a "D" or "DA" on the front of the base in the same colors as the runes on the Heretek. It'd keep is subdued but still easy to identify.

Also, more please.

for a war walker, im thinking...

War Walker mixed with a Penitent Engine, model some extra growing flesh into it, like the warp is pulling his flesh out further. Green stuff works remarkebly well when you are looking for flesh-like additions. Can't seem to get ti to work well for technical things so.... anyway. Thats my 5 cents.

We are at war with forces too terrible to comprehend. We cannot afford mercy for any of its victims too weak to take the correct course. Mercy destroys us; it weakens us and saps our resolve. Put aside all such thoughts. They are not worthy of Inquisitors in the service of Our Emperor. Praise his name for in our resolve we only reflect his purpose of will.

Again, a big thanks to everyone! I'm really glad you like them.

My new job-thingie has completely killed my hobby-time, but today I finally managed to get some things done. Here are a few WIP-shots of my Heavy Servitor Construct ('counts as' War Walker, with two Scatter Lasers). Still a lot of things to do, like removing mold lines, green stuffing gaps, and so on.
