maybe this just stems from my love of kickass HQ's...but-

Has anyone tried kiting out as Assault Squad Sargent with a Thunder hammer or Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield? I know it's one hell of a point sink, but having that kind of anti vehicle power and mobility together with the safety of a 5-10 wound squad could really pop some enemy vehicles.

And having the Storm Shield, you could put some power weapon saves on him and have a good shot of surviving, which might extend the life of the squad(no more of that lone lascannon shot always reducing a squad down each round).

Any thoughts or experiences?

What is the point of the storm shield? Are you really going to risk the life of your thunder hammer sergeant to save a chainsword?

I have seen people do it and it can save a marine from a fist or any power weapon attack. I agree its a big risk, but its not stupid by any means.

The hammer is great on a sarge, it doesn't cost much more than a fist and gives a lot of benefits plus it looks cool. Assault squads are cheap as hell now anyway, the t.hammer can come in really useful.

I always liked squads that could allow you to buy stormshields for regular members, such as vanguard, or black templar veterans (the name of which escapes me atm). That way you could soak the powerweapon/fist attacks without risking anything but an expendable guy.

I have been running a bikercommand squad with 2 stormshileds (tho, in this case, they also had lightning claws) recently, and for the most part, the 2 shields are more than enough to keep the squad alive and kicking.
