Played a game yesterday. it was just a use what was available game. That's why the points are odd. Both listst are his units. Here is the highlight for me:
I took out an ironclad and a charger with a 8 men sea-dog unit. (granted they had mr Walls and Shae put a spell on them to incraese stats, but still. I took out the ironclad in a few blows (4 or 5). The defender took 2 blows. The others had 1 swordknight to take care of. Suffice to say I defeated his jacks pretty well.... I did not even use first mate hawk, who would have made it even sicker...)
Small report from the battle:
apoligies for writing it down without much explanation of precice moves. Did that in other reports and don't have the time to do that now. plus it is a bit fuzzy...
Me: pirates
Shea
sea dogs
- 2 long gunners
- mr walls
2 sea dog deck guns
press gangers (min sized)
bloody bradigan
first mate hawk
rockbottom
Cygnar:
nemo
- lancer
- charger
- ironclad
sword knights (min unit)
It was a movement game. I got first turn and moved up the cannons. the board was pretty crowded with terrain. I had no shots and therefore I moved up both cannons. The rest pretty much stayed put and realligned to face the cygnarians.
He moved up into cover. His move made sure I was still not in range with the deck guns with any off the jacks. The sword Knights moved up behind some crates. I was unable to see them for now. This was going to get difficult, but that was expected...
My second turn I moved grogspar to 9 inch of the knights (left flank). I hoped to be at 10, but I can't geuss ranges well apparently

. I shot at the knights half expecting a miss. Fortunately I hit. The knight blows up in a nice explosion causing 2 other knights to die. (making sure I was out of range of his charge

) Nothing else really happened except I again moved my artillery...
he then proceeded to blast bosun to little bits. First shot from the defender missed. second shot got boosted hit and damage rolls, destroying him. Not much else interesting happened.
Third turn I redeploy everything with running. I will have to get him in the open for 1 turn to take some shots at him. The canons move up. the gamgers stand beside them around middle board facing left and the sea dogs and solos take up a line in front of them. They all face left, where the cygnarians will be coming from.
His third turn sees him break from cover and he wants to take me head on (I must say I was talking him into doing it a bit, because I would otherwise continue to steer clear of his jacks

gotta love psychology). The unexpected thing for me was that he did a blinding flash. Making sure my canons would not fire at his jacks, or if they did would most likely mis.
My 4th turn I feat moving the gangers, sea dogs and shea 3 inch up. Then I move the deck guns back a few inches. the solos do't do much.. Shea casts the buff on the sea dogs. Then he casts a blow the man down on a sword knight. This fails a boosted hit roll, otherwise the knight would have hit nemo in the face. then shae moves back towards the deck guns. The sea dogs get the charge order of mr walls (just for the heck of it) and charge the ironclad, the charger and a single sword knight. They all got thrashed.
His turn he pulls back a little and casts 3 lightnings on the dogs. He misses 1 and only takes out 3 with the others (bad rolls

)
My final turn I charge nemo with the remnant of the sea dogs. They thrash nemo (I moved up hawk first to make sure I had the strength to do so. Also recast the statt buff on the dogs. Nemo died in 1 hit. Did not need the others
I think we made a lot of beginners misstakes, neither having playsed the army before, but I came out well on top. I like the way the pirates work and I like how a "weak" unit can thrash a jack sometimes, but this was too much. I thrashed 2 jacks and would have thrashed more if the lancer was closer. Still, next time I do not think it will be this easy, as nemo will be out and stryker in. That wil be a harder match for sure...
As a side not I don't like the list I played. It works well, but I like at least 1 jack in any list. The game is made for jacks, so it should have jacks. Unfrotunately he has no talion-charter jacks. He will be buying a mariner soon though...)
